yeah The Pillows are great.
So it seems like the advice is
1) Try before you buy if possible
2)Balance 'not settling for less' and 'Don't get too much more than you need'
3)Peavey Classic 30's are good, Blues Jr's are good, and most people don't enjoy Fender's take on a "drive" channel.
4) The super champ XD is worth adding to the list to consider
Super Champ XD
Pro: 2 channels, 1 clean, 1 modeling with a bunch of amps I wouldn't mind owning. 16 effects. Manageable vol. way cheap
Con: 10" speaker. Single 12ax7 is only the phase inverter? single F/X level knob may offer limited control.
I agree that small amps usually sound small. Not big on tiny cabinets on cheaper amps because maybe they don't rattle now, but someday maybe. With the 12ax7 being the phase inverter, that would mean that even the clean channel is digital. 10" speaker...?
I don't want to completely dismiss it before trying it but I'm usually not for modeling amps.
