Re: Amp control preferences

I used a Laney VC50 for years and never figured out any use for the presence control. I think I set it on 1 the day I got the amp and then forgot it existed. The Cornford Roadhouse I use now has no presence control and I've never found myself wishing it had one. What can a presence control do that you can't get from a decent treble, middle and bass set up ? The fact that you're considering not having one on your amp suggests that it won't be any great loss. I don't use reverb so I won't comment on that.

Re: Amp control preferences

Based on my Blackface Fender builds (3), I'd rather have a reverb bass-cut than a tone control (treble cut). Depends on the tank, cab & speakers though. A 2-way tone control would be cool though (i.e. treble one way and bass the other). A Dwell control is nice with a long delay tank but I don't think most players would use it much.

One problem I have with a Presence control (though I voted for it) is that it reduces negative feedback on the higher frequencies where you need NFB the most to reduce noise.

Any advantage to a "Raw" control? IOW 50k or 100k between the bottom of the Mid pot and ground to get more signal (and less tone control) going through the preamp. Depends on your tone stack - a 25K Mid pot does enough for my taste but YMMV.

How about a cathode bypass cap switch - Fat boost/clean/Hi boost?

Sorry, I know you've already designed your amp. Best of luck with your endeavor. I know it'll be a great sounding amp!
