Amp for Blues

Re: Amp for Blues

a touch sensitive amp that responds dynamically like a Fender Bassman, or Vox AC30 on the "top boost" option, or a Supro amp. These are touch sensitive and dynamic meaning you can set the volume on the amp at a nice breakup point, then roll your guitar volume down to 5 or 6 and the amp will clean up untill you hit the strings hard and you will get that instant distortion because the amp is touch sensitive...then roll your guitar volume up to 10 for full on distortion for guitar fills or solo's and roll it back down to 5 or 6 again to clean up the tone to a spanky clean tone.
many blues players play this way, its a blast to have that kind of touch sensitivity on the amp and be able to control your distortion with your guitar volume knob. .......just an idea. Check out Jeff Beck "live at Rony Scotts" he is working his guitar volume knob constantly the whole time pushing his signal to his amps even his distortion with his marshals is controlled with that guitar volume knob. Its fun to watch and a blast to do but it does take a little practice to get used to.

Re: Amp for Blues

Amps that are suitable for Blues are uncountable. All I can do is show you what I chose to go with.

Re: Amp for Blues

I didn't slog through all 5 pages, so I'm sure I'm not posting anything new. You'll likely want to go with a "fender style" amp, though not necessarily an actual Fender. Something with 6L6 power tubes, most likely, though this is far from a set rule. You'll also want to keep the wattage low, 20ish, if you'll be using the amp's native overdrive. The idea being that you really want to crank the amp for maximum tone, which is difficult with a 40w+ amp. Now, if you're going to use an OD pedal then you just want the best sounding clean channel you can find/afford, which is why the Hot Rod Deluxe is hugely popular. I'm currently really happy with my Blackstar Artist 15 for slight breakup types of tones on channel 2, and channel 1 is great for pedals if you need more gain.
