OK my first post- I have a Vox Valvetronix and i dont really dig the sounds, but it gets the job done. I have been looking around at amps for quite some time, but i havent found much. I have a budget of 200-400 dollars, preferably less. Im trying to find a good amp for punk/rock, dont need good cleans, loud enough for small to med gigs. Our lead guitarist has a Marshall valvestate 150 halfstack and I really like the tone. Any recommendations?

I'd say if you like the sound of your other guitarist's Valvestate then you should take a look at the Marshall AVT series combos. I think those were the evolution of the Valvestate series, and now they're called AVTX I believe. You could probably pick up a used AVT50 or AVT100 on eBay that fits your budget.

The Sovtek MIG amps are cheap and they're supposed to be like the poor man's JCM800. I'd try and find one on eBay. They go in your price range all the time. You would need a cab, but those also can be had cheap.

Acshully, I got a peavey classic VT series (50 watt tube, 212). Dude, if you gotta distortion pedal (maybe jekyll&hyde) it will rock yer fukin sox

The Carvin x100B is the amp before the Vai Legacy. It was what Vai was playing until the Legacy. You would get it used on Ebay. A great 2 channel amp that is under valued right now.
