AMP GAS 2024

there was a cheap one form Thomann but they wouldnt ship that item to the US

found a cheap one used at the local GC, rolled down Sunday and looked at it
no power cord, no foot switch, and the Bluetooth antenna was broken
it was discounted heavily , but I couldnt test it and its condition didnt look promising

super tiny in person

My amp GAS is my lowest GAS of all. I like my Marshalls and don't really need anything more. Guitars and pickups are another story. If there was an incredible deal on a Bogner Helios 100 or Hiwatt DR103 I'd consider it.

I'm in about your exact same deal. (Minus the Marshall's.) I've got my Bogner area covered, but if I won a scratch-off, I'd have a DR-103 combo. And I'm not even sure why. They just look bad-ass.

I'm trying to figure out how to afford a new/used Friedman Twin Sister or Dirty Shirley. The tone just oozes out of them!

I really love the Dirty Shirley tone. I don't think I have a use for one professionally, but it sounds great.

Well, I tried.

I'd also like a twin sister/dirty shirley if it were financially viable. Maybe some year.

I'm been wanting a Friedman Pink Taco, but have been pretty successful at convincing myself that's too much amp for me.

I want the new mini Steve Morse ENGL. But hey, it is $1600 and I can't spend that on an amp right now (and I have lots of amps already).

I definitely know the feeling. I would love to have the new PRS DGT 15. It's about the same price as the ENGL. Not in my budget right now.

The more I play my Mesa Express 5/25, the more it grows on me. Does it mean I need to upgrade to a Recto or Mark series? It's really bugging me.

do you need a new amp? is there something the express isnt giving you? the recto and mark are different beasts than what you have

I doubt the express will give me the recto & mark tones & feel? :D
No need for a new amp, most definitely, I can't even crank the ones I have already. Space & budget wise it'd be a very bad decision. I'm playing the express at home at low volume into a Laney 4x12, mostly using the clean and burn modes and both sounds really nice. The clean tones are great, better than what I get from the DSL40 and I can even get very good high gain tones pushing it with an SD-1. But still, can't play them loud :(

I have been looking at the Fender Tone Master 1x10 powered cab which is made for modelers. There were issues with the first run of those (which are most of them for sale now) in that they have an unbearable hiss to them. Fender has 'corrected' it and there is even a 3rd party preamp available to eliminate it, but it would be cool to have a special cabinet for a modeler.

Ok so it the Zombie got here
the drive channel has a really loud hiss

Got a HB vertical unloaded convertible 2x12

Best deal

I loaded the HB first with the two Carvin VL12 8ohm speakers I swapped out of the Belair

Then settled on one Carvin and one EHX 12VR8

I like that better for now

The cab manual says use 16 ohm speakers for the mono parallel and stereo wiring

That gives you the rating on the label

But I set it to stereo and just jumped them together on one circuit

If anyone has a better idea how to rewire it

I am all ears
But I think thei works for me

Loads from front or back

And if you get an unloaded HB cabinet
You will need mounting screws for the speakers

Doesn't come with

M4x25 0.7 thread pan head machine screws
Eight of em

my buddy has the new 12" and he loves it!

Yeah, not much difference in overall volume and frequency range between the 10 and 12, so I'd go smaller. There is also a guy who designed a replacement preamp for them that solves the hiss issue and a bunch of other problems the stock preamp has.
