AMP GAS 2024

I'll tell you what I could really use, is a nice inexpensive 100+ watt 8 ohm 2x12 to pair with the Traynor for my upstairs practice rig.

Yeah, but he knows what he is doing. There is a lot of info in that thread about the design of those cabinets, and what Fender got right and what they did very very wrong.

Don't mind the look/sound/features of that new Blackstar 100W St. James amp...


But I would'nt pay $2000 for a new one.

Yeah, I point anyone interested in those amps to that thread, as it seems the guy really put a lot of time into making them better.

Those are interesting. I hadn't seen those before. 10" speaker, with a tweeter, and a 1000 Watt amp. But It is kinda too bad that they need mods straight out of the box to be their best.

Apparently, they hiss pretty bad, and have some pretty cheap components in the preamp that cause other issues.

Class D always is. I'm still a little wary of it. I've had to repair a few units that just went "poof" for no apparent reason. The "repair", is to replace the whole module.

I think there is no 'standard' to measure watts as far as perceived volume goes. Certainly you can say 100 watts is probably louder than 10, but when you get up to 1000 or 2000 watts, things get a little less clear.
 
Won't call it gas but I would like to try out one of those new Orange amps. Gain baby 100 or Tour baby 100.

Laney Dual Top looks interesting.

but when I got the Joyo Zombie
I really like the clean channel better

There are several of the 30 Watt baby heads from Soldano to Friedman for $250

Just can't seem to pull the trigger
 
Does anyone own / has owned, or played a Victory Kraken? There's one for sale in a pawnshop here and I'm tempted to pull the plug if I can get a deal. The YT videos I watched are full of praise and I personally like the growl and its raw character. I can live with the shared EQ and with the not so clean cleans and will most likely play it through my Laney 2x12 with G12H 70th Anniversary speakers. Then there's also a 5150 III 50W for sale as well, my head is spinning!
 
One of my favorite guitar tones is Steve Morse through a 5150. His tone changed (not for the better) when he switched to ENGL.
