Amp gurus please tell me what this Vibroverb clone would be like?

Re: Amp gurus please tell me what this Vibroverb clone would be like?

Not to switch topic, but I have been looking for a stock 62 or 63 Blonde Bandmaster. Seeing one blackfaced and vibroverbed up almost made me cry!

In a bad way or a good way?

Hahaha oh well...I bet it still sounds killer ;)

Re: Amp gurus please tell me what this Vibroverb clone would be like?

I do not know the conversion rate for !600 Austrailian dollars to US. But, if it was for sale here in the US, I'd not pay more than 1000 USD for it. Granted availability in Aus might make this pretty rare over there. It looks like they did good cosmetic work, but I'd want some nekkid gut shots. I'd like to see how much was completely replaced.

Re: Amp gurus please tell me what this Vibroverb clone would be like?

I wasn't meaning to go in that direction. I was just saying that in the world of old fenders, 73's aren't that valued to begin with. Then they completely destroyed any vintage resale value when they yanked the chassis out of the head and gave it a new faceplate.

Now if they gutted the insides completely, then you have an old chassis and old transformers and that's it for vintage. If they left the insides relativley intact when they blackfaced the circuit, then maybe it has a bit more mojo to it.

Not trying to diss it, just not much vintage value to it any longer.

Re: Amp gurus please tell me what this Vibroverb clone would be like?

Haha Scott sorry I think you took that the wrong way...I was actually serious about rather wanting to get a Celtic from you :) That price is actually pretty darn cheap for a Fender amp that has been jazzed up to sound good...regardless of resale value (well, that's now what I buy amps for anyway).

But I actually really like the sound of your amps and think that anything I would get off you would be better quality and value anyway. Your amps sound really good and I think when it comes time to buy a combo I'm going to come to you because I'm sure you could make a good funk/blues kind of combo thing...maybe even with a 15" speaker ;) Your tweed clone looks mighty nice...this is all providing you can ship to Australia of course which probably shouldn't be too hard, but I'm talking sometime in the hopefully near future.

Re: Amp gurus please tell me what this Vibroverb clone would be like?

OH CRAP I thought the auction said 63 bandmaster, but its actually a 73. NM! No more tears! :)

Re: Amp gurus please tell me what this Vibroverb clone would be like?

yeah Joe...don't sweat it, it's a 73 which means it all "wrong" for what you want(ed)...as for it being a 73, if the amp has been blackfaced (it has) and has good speaker(s) (it does) and is in a better cab than what mid 70's Fenders came in (it is) then it's a killer amp...maybe not worth what a mid 60's Black face Fener is worth and maybe not collectable but it is a well made amp that sounds amazing...

As for the tone of that amp think clean and chimey then a nice bluesy overdrive when pushed but all through a very nice 15 inch speaker, great reverb and tremolo.

Re: Amp gurus please tell me what this Vibroverb clone would be like?

I've heard about 'vibrocloning' but I'm not sure exactly what folks are doing. Is is more about the 15 inch speaker? How is the original Vibroverb different from the Bandmaster (or Bandmaster Reverb) circuit wise?

On a different note, since it was mentioned in the thread...I'd love to have my BF Bandmaster looked over, but I'm afraid of dropping the value by replacing caps, etc. Am I crazy? I don't want it to blow up but I don't want to 'mod' it either. What do you guys think?

Re: Amp gurus please tell me what this Vibroverb clone would be like?

I tell ya, the only caps I'd touch on that amp Farkus are the big electrolytics. And that was if they were trashed. They probably are if they've never been replaced. But if I didn't see any bubbling on their end caps, I'd leave them be (providing the amp sounded good). (They are in the little dog house can on the exposed side of the chassis.

As far as the caps on the main board, I'd not touch a darn thing if you want to keep its vintage value. You used the word "mod" and I'd highly suggest you not touch a thing in it.

Re: Amp gurus please tell me what this Vibroverb clone would be like?

The transformers are not the same.

If you had a TFL 5005 circuit you would be close, but no cigar.

The speakers are quite different!

I gave away a vibroclone last year and kept my real vibroverb.

Re: Amp gurus please tell me what this Vibroverb clone would be like?

...and just for reference sake, that price of $1699 AUD is about equal to the price of a new Fender Hot Rod Deville 212 or 410.

Re: Amp gurus please tell me what this Vibroverb clone would be like?

Bandmasters are not exactly the biggest sounding amps out there---smaller 35 watt OT (like the Pro/Vibrolux/Tremolux), lower plate voltages, etc. And with that Weber 15A125 (smooth cone?), it's gonna break up early. Look around for a SF Vibrasonic---a Twin with a 15". You can pick up some of the UL models a little cheaper, but these can sound very good if you are looking for cleans.

In that case, I'd take it over a HRD any day.
