Amp Head and speaker cab??

Hello Forum,
I am looking to purchase an Orange Head and Cab. I am interested in the Rockerverb, OR and TH series, all in 50w and 100w versions.
Since I will be running at mostly lower volumes (dont play out much anymore, plus have a bit of a space issue) is it possible to run a 100 watt head unit with a 2x12 cab? Of course still using the 16ohm connections to match.
Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Re: Amp Head and speaker cab??

Make sure the cab has enough watts to take the amp head, so in your case 100 watts minimum. Matching the ohms help too.

Re: Amp Head and speaker cab??

So if a 2x12 cab is rated at 120 watts, is that cutting it too close for a 100 watt head?

Re: Amp Head and speaker cab??

Also I should add my style of playing ranges from some classic-modern rock, with a bit of metal thrown in there. I have only tried the Rockerverb 100 mkII in stores. It does seem to have a good range of distortion. I'm just looking for a happy medium with both sound and watts (volume) without being overkill, yet having a deep enough distortion for my liking.

Re: Amp Head and speaker cab??

You want the rating of your cab to be twice what your amp is rated. A 300 watt cab would be ideal. There are some great high wattage speakers that can go into a 212 cab and give you a great sound.
