What do you folks carry your amp heads in? I know a lot of players move them around just as they are, but I really want to protect my JVM 410H and keep it looking good. I've read some mixed reviews of some products, and the wheeled Marshall bag I used to have isn't available anymore.

What are your experiences?

Re: Amp head cases, bags, etc.

Rough moving it and out of those Jazz gigs?

I don't use anything. I also don't make it a point to bang that kind of stuff around.

Re: Amp head cases, bags, etc.

That's why they're called accidents.

Re: Amp head cases, bags, etc.

The OEM Marshall amp head sleeves can protect from tears and dirt, but won't protect amp dials or provide shock absorption.
I guess a custom case or flight case could be obtained. I personally don't move mine around much, and am diligent if I do have to.

Re: Amp head cases, bags, etc.

I have a custom case for the DSL 100. The amp is heavy enough on its own the case makes it even heavier.

Re: Amp head cases, bags, etc.

I use tuki amp covers for heads. Light weight and padded protection. Just got one for my combo amp. I do have a skb rack case for my bass rig. She's seen plenty of gigs and taken it like a champ.

+1 for Tuki, I got one for my Mesa Mark V combo, it's heavily padded and protects the grill cloth

Re: Amp head cases, bags, etc.

I could see getting one of those for my 4x12.

Re: Amp head cases, bags, etc.

If you want protection and shock absorption you might as well look at a road case. Most large cities seem to have a company that'll construct cases for any industry, including musical instruments.

Myself, I use slip covers and padded gig bags. I would't bother with road cases unless touring, but I also accept that my gear is going to get scuffed up.

Re: Amp head cases, bags, etc.

It's looking like a road case is the way to go for the head. Wheels, yes.

Re: Amp head cases, bags, etc.

My solution is also simple and effective. I don't let others touch my stuff. If I break it, fine.

Re: Amp head cases, bags, etc.

I've purchased a few things from Kent Custom Cases in Buffalo, they make great stuff. My Road King in the road case is a two man operation now.

Re: Amp head cases, bags, etc.

Or get a four wheeler.

Re: Amp head cases, bags, etc.

HD roadcases add so much size and weight that it sometimes takes two people to move an amp head. You only need them on tours with trucks, roadies, or cartage companies.

For regular gigs and rehearsals, Tuki padded covers make the most sense.
Buy a set of those for your halfstack, and you're done. For cabs, I just use the non padded type.

Amp head cases, bags, etc.

^ Not to *mention the bang for buck with Tuki. My custom cover was $72 plus shipping.

Re: Amp head cases, bags, etc.

I also like Tuki covers and have some for my Mesa combos.

The covers by D2F are just slightly lighter weight and can be a little less money. I prefer the Tuki. And there are other cover makers.

There are a few companies that build "lightweight" road cases. They're not as heavy-duty as the true roadcases, but more protective than the soft padded covers like a Tuki.

For my gigs around town, the Tuki or my factory Mesa covers are fine if I'm driving my Chrysler Town and Country van. I get a little paranoid when we have to rent a U-haul van or truck for when I have to take my big PA using just soft covers for my amps. But for touring, I'd definitely want some serious Anvil style roadcases.

Good luck.

Bill
