Ok...I got my dad 2 Pick me up some resistors from work.......I have a Cement resistor rated at 1.5Kohm.....can I use this??...Or does it absolutely HAVE 2 be in the 680ohm range???

and what EXACTLY does it do anyway?? Scott F and Amp Guru's Help would be appreciated!!!!

~Mitch~

Pic shows cracked one..the other looks Identical...except for the 1.5Kohm rating

My 2 cents...If ya don't know whats goin on in the circuit...It's probably best to stick with the stock values.

Re: Amp Help Rev.

Oh I would!! If I know what they were!!!!

Do ya have a DVM? Unless It's blown..you should be able to get a fairly accurate reading. Most resistors have their value printed on em...on those big block wire-wound resistors it should be printed on the side, and on most others its denoted by the colored bands. Here's a helpful site:

What amp is that anywho?

Re: Amp Help Rev.

Go look at your other thread. Jeff Seal (who is one of my amp guru's that I turn to when I'm stumped) had recommended a value range. Go read what he wrote.

Re: Amp Help Rev.

Read his opinion. You should be okay with 1.5K.

Scott, what's up??... hope all is well with you :)

I have the schematic, a similar amp, but most notably if you follow the wire in the pics, you'll notice it goes to pin 9 on both EL84's. This is the screen grid and is always slightly lower than plate voltage. Whereas most amps will use a choke between the plate and screen grid, a resistor will also work. (see Yamaha T-100, Fender Bassman Ten schematics for examples). In reality, almost any 10 watt resistor from 470 ohm to about 2k will work fine for EL84's.

Traynor schematics of this era are difficult to isolate, due to constant changes. Interestingly enough, every amp Traynor made came with the schematic already inside the amp for just this reason, but few remain intact or left in there as it's affixed to a top plate that's a PITA to line back up when reinstalling the chassis. So most just get left out altogether over the years...

It's a 1973 traynor Bassmate....and the Resistor I'm talking about is the Big White Cement rectangle in the pics:P...If you read My other thread...it shows How It's cracked in half haha...the Values printed on the sign say Nothing of Any value to the Guru's either:P haha
