Amp postage, US->UK?

hey guys, just wanna pick a couple of brains - if a UK guy were to buy a decent size amp head (5150, dual rec, around that size/weight), how much would it be to ship from the US? i'm just interested in a ballpark figure; wondering if it's worth browsing the US site for amps!

thanks, tom

Re: Amp postage, US->UK?

I imagine it'd be fairly expensive as it's usually around £30+ to ship an amp just around the UK.

You'd also have to factor in customs/import tax at about 19% or so. So make sure you do the maths before you decide to do it :)

Re: Amp postage, US->UK?

I've shipped amps to the UK and Germany. You're looking at $60-$80 for surface (4-6 weeks) and $150-$200 for air (5-10 days).

In fact, I'm currently awaiting a claim on a Sunn Sorado I sent to London; it got through customs, to the Greater London postal service - who then subbed it out to a third-party parcel delivery service - who then lost it.

There is also the issue of mains supply. Most amps don't have international voltage capability.

Re: Amp postage, US->UK?

ebay guy may charge in excess of 200$ for surface mail, make sure it gets very well packed!

Re: Amp postage, US->UK?

$200 for surface is insane, that's more than double what it will actually cost, even including packing materials and time for packaging.

just as insane as waiting a couple of months for a boat to get it there fron NA

Um, surface IS a boat. It shouldn't cost more than $75 or so to ship surface. $200 for air is a little high but not terrible.
