Amp question

Hi. The only amps i've ever owned havenbeen combo so i have a question about stacks. If the bought a stack like this: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/AC15Stack

Would i later be able to use the cab with a head like a 50 or 100watt marshall or would i need a cab with more powerful speakers to handle it? I know nothing about the topic. As far as i know, the speakers typically used could be the exact same

The rule is that you want to make sure the speakers can handle what the amp is putting out. That cab has Greenbacks in it, which should make it a 50w cab. I wouldn't advise plugging anything more powerful than a 30w head into that cab with those speakers.

You could, for example, get some 60w Vintage 30s and make it a 120w cab, then you'd be safe using a 100w head.

Got another question. If i put fender style speakers in that cab, would it essentially turn into a fender cab that looks like a vox or are there other electronic components that contribute to tone housed in a cab?

The answer to that one is not simple. Yes, a Vox amp will still sound like a Vox amp. Or the other way: The Fender Supersonic, for example, sounds like a Fender through Celestion Vintage 30 speakers. However, the speaker(s) and cab design is probably one of the most, if not the most, important componant in the tone of an amp. It will certainly change the tone of the amp.

I'd say you will end up with "hybrid" that has the dimensions and materials of the cab and the specific dynamics of the new speakers. Speakers are probably the biggest part but materials and dimensions (including closed/open design) play a big role too.
And no, there are usually no electronics in a cab - it's mostly a wooden box housing the speaker with a simple connector jack directly connected to the speaker.

If you're planning on a full-size head in the distant future then don't bother with this cab IMO. (although at 50w, that cab should handle a 50w amp unless it's being blasted for some time)

You're wanting a greenback-type 212 that can be used in the future with a full-size head? Go with an Avatar 212 sig-cab loaded with a creamback m65/h75 mix for the same $500.
