Amp Recomendations for a Dorm room

Re: Amp Recomendations for a Dorm room

no, but I bought the 15 watt mainly because I got a deal on it for 150 back when they cost a little over 200 a piece. it just has a master volume

Re: Amp Recomendations for a Dorm room

i use a 30 watt tube combo in my dorm, it's barely turned up to one, but it does the trick.

Re: Amp Recomendations for a Dorm room

what exactly is the deal with those? I've always wondered...
tell me some stuff including sounds, features, etc

Always wanted one. never had one. ive seen street performers using them. They are , or can be battery powered. The older ones are pretty well bid up on ebay. I have played them Nice small speaker has decent clean tone , and distortion isnt bad-then again I havent played none of the new ones.Just seems like it'd be something groovy to have anyway, and not a compromise and not a whhole lot of money. Something you could crank a wee bit in the little dorm, and get a fair sound without compromising on an pricier and larger amp just so you can play it low. Better to play a wee bitty amp loud than a bigger amp like a weener, eh?
If I'm not mistaken they can be run into the front of a normal amp as a decent Overdrive/?

I tried one of those G-Dec amps, when they first came out. Not the same model tho, it looked more like this

Anyways, it was very complicated to use and sounded absolutely terrible IMO.

I eventually decided on the Vox AD15VT.

NICE, but too rich for our student :grumble:

Re: Amp Recomendations for a Dorm room

I'm confused, it seems like you are continuing to describe your AD15VT

Oh no, I like my AD15VT. But another user recomended that for me to take, but I already have one, yet it is too loud. The description you quoted was for what I was looking for a cheap combo OTHER THAN my AD15VT, but much quieter.

Re: Amp Recomendations for a Dorm room

A friend of mine, who has in his collection an old Pignose, said that my Micro Cube made the Pig sound like a pile of dog doo. I agree. Small amps have come a long way since the Pignose. IMHO, the Pignose appeal is somewhat built on nostalgia, at least for their small amp.

Re: Amp Recomendations for a Dorm room

does anyone here have ANY experience with the Vox Pathfiner 15r, or any of the smaller Kustom amps like the Arrow 16r or the 12 Tube?
The Pathfinder has treble and bass knobs, reverb, tremolo (with knobs to edit it), gain, volume, 2channels, and a boost switch. It's also a solid state, but rumoured to have a very beautiful creamy overdrive.
The Kustom 12 Tube is a hybrid (12AX7 preamp) with 2 channels, treble and bass EQ, gain knob for overdrive.
The Kustom Arrow 16r is solid state, full EQ, 2 channel, reverb, and gain knob.
I have no idea what Kustom's sound like, but they seem nice. Best of all, out of all three of the amps, the most expensive one is 120 bucks

Re: Amp Recomendations for a Dorm room

I think you're on the right track with the Micro Cube. It covers a lot of ground, sounds killer, takes up little space, its cheap and can still get pretty loud if you ever wanted it to. It has quite a few models ,all good and the reverb and delay both sound great. Its easy to dial in too.

Re: Amp Recomendations for a Dorm room

Man if you already have an AD15VT (15 watts, 8" speaker for those who don't know) and you need something smaller, I say you're out of luck.

I agree. If the Ad15vt is too much, the only thing that comes to mind might be a Roland Microcube. They are pretty good for the size. Its what I use when I am trying to be ultra quiet. (I hate wearing headphones when I'm playing)

Re: Amp Recomendations for a Dorm room

I run a Mesa combo in my dorm room. I feel really inconsiderate now.

Re: Amp Recomendations for a Dorm room

Diezel Herbert!!!!! Muhahahaha.

But seriously, the Cornford Harlequin is only 6w but in the US is may be very expensive plus it doesn't have a mids control and for me i like mids in my tone.

If you don't mind that, then the Cornford Harlequin may do the trick.
