i got it, wooooooooooo!!!!!!

this amp smokes everything i ever owned before!!the cleans are lush, full sparkly.
the gain chanel gets a bit mushy when you turn the gain to 10 and have it on low volume, but it gets tigher and tigher and tighter as much you turn the volume up (max i had it in my room was 5.. you can barely stand it.)
it's soooo articulate!
the reverb sucks though...typical spring reverb sound.

the guy i bought it off of (for 390 euro mind you.. MINT condition, Sovtek tubes; 6L6) is way cool.. he said only reason he's selling it is, cos he's got a VH100 and a GH50 =P he's playin in a band, and they're recording an album (think in flames style) top notch dude.. were talking about music and gear for like an hour hehe, the friend i went with (also a guitarist, but no gearhead) was just sitting there, listening.. probably had no idea WTF we were talking about.

back to the amp, it's loud (no ****) but i think my room absorbs some of the loudness, since i thought it was louder at his place @ 4.
i also need to move the cabinet away, so i got some more space and put the cab on stands, cos not only the floor is shaking, it's got WAY too much bass in that corner, like drowning.
the guy also had a tube screamer in front and the distortion was SICK!

now i got to change the strings.. which i intended to do earlier today, but a friend of mine, who i went to pick up the amp with, actualy had time today and not tomorrow as he said he would.. in anyway, i got the amp a day sooner!!!

i'll get my ass up and try to record something during the weekend for sure!!

the amp search is over!!!! the tube & right speaker search begins LMFAO!!!

Re: Amp search is over

Congrats Dude, wellcome to the club. I assume LH series are something from the nineties or eighties, because they are not in the current line up of their product how would you compare it to AORs ?

Re: Amp search is over

the LH is a pretty short run.. there were two, this one and the mk.II, which has the slanted faceplate

it's the head version of the LC50R; of which are also two issues. and they werent made for long i think.
some shops had them NOS, which is what this amp is. ~3 months old

the guy sold it, cos it had pretty similar voicing to his VH100 and since he could get all the tones he wanted out of that one, he decided to sell it.

can't compare it to the AOR, as i never owned one, sorry

Re: Amp search is over

Well, VH100 is Laney's top horse these days, so you can't say anything about that. How is the buttom end ? Tighter than mesa's ?

Re: Amp search is over

Davey....

Just checking. You through being gone from the internet? :)

Anyway, what's the speaker in your cab?

Re: Amp search is over

Looks like fun. I'm glad for ya Davey that you found your tone after having no luck with your last Laney.

Re: Amp search is over

Sweet, Davey. That's nice. I can't say I've seen a Laney like that because I haven't. I am familiar with and fond of the GH50L and GH100L though.

*grunt* ....LOL

Re: Amp search is over

Congrats Davey...:bigthumb:

IDK about those newer Laneys...but the old ones...from the mid to late 80s, I found paired best with 75W celestions, or even Classic Lead 80s (tightened up some of that Laney "fizz")...I bought a Laney cab (75s) w/ my 50W Laney Head and it was just a great cab. Eventually just ran everything through it..even my 1987.

my Laneys had 6v6s (30w) or El34s...not sure what would sound best with 6L6s...prolly what you have (V30s)...

Laney's top horse? I played it a while ago and it had a bad buzzy distortion. I hope the GH series are better.

Well, I did mean to say VH and GH are top hoarses, I have not played either, but from the sound clipps I wouldn't say that VH is buzzy, GH however has more of a kick in your teeth metal distortion, I can see how some can say that it is closer out of the two to an AOR. VH has very major tweakability features however.

Re: Amp search is over

Looks good, but can it get that EVH sound?????

j/k

Great you finally found the amp for you... seems like you've been seeking forever now...

Btw the Chinese pream tubes from TAD (RT001) are a good place to start ;)
