Amp Speakers?

I wanted to get some opinions on some tube amp speakers. I think I want some 10" jensens. Celestions are good too but i wanted to get some educated info. I want something good to crank up and get good speaker distortion and gain. I play blues and hard rock. I am planning to put them in my Paavey classic 50 410.

Re: Amp Speakers?

I own a Classic 30 (the 30 watt 1x12 version of your amp)

I have two speakers wired in the cab individually, a Celestion g12h and a Jensen c12n. (one to the speaker wires and one the to ext. speaker jack)

I absolutely love the celestion. It's a very warm sounding speaker, it's got loads of bottom end, nice smooth highs and warm low mids. The problem with it is, it's great at moderate volumes, but with my amp driven hard it gets wayy too bassy and muddy on its own. To solve this I add in the Jensen at higher volumes. The jensen is an extremely bright, sparkly speaker. It's got loads of mids, not a lot of bottom end, and tighter highs. This makes it a really good partner for the Celestion.

Look into different brands and models of speakers, and if your replacing all four, consider mixing and matching. You'll cover a much wider range.

Re: Amp Speakers?

I am not a fan of the new Jensens at all...if you want real Jensen tone get a Weber...Celestions 10's are ok, IMO the old G1035 is FAR better than the current Vintage 10 but a lot of people do like the vintage 10...Eminence is also making some killer 10's right now...

FWIW, I have a Mission Amps clone of an early 50's 2x10 Tweed Fender Super and I use 2 Webers in it...one 10A100T and one 10F125...great mix! They cost a bit more than Jensens but they are WELL worth it IMO.

Re: Amp Speakers?

+1 on Webers, I have them in my Tweed Twin, 12 inchers that is. Sound very good, a little on the stiff side when you first get them but after playing for a few weeks they break in nicely and really warm up/soften up, and not to mention, they break up very nicely when you drive the amp hard, giving you that woody tone. The Jensen reissues (Found in new Bassman Reissues and plenty of other amps out there) tend to sound harsh and overly bright to most people, myself included. And I would also go for half alnico speakers and half ceramic speakers (in your case 2 speakers being ceramic, 2 being alnico) as Christain did. This way you will have the bottom end preserved and still get that nice greasy alnico breakup.

Re: Amp Speakers?

Gunny, the speakers in the low power twin are actually built by Eminence if Im not mistaken...either way, give them a little time to break in and they should sound even better!
