Hey guys maybe you can help with a problem i noticed on my new amp.
I just bought a Laney IRT15H and play it through the Laney 2x12 cab. It's been great, but I noticed something troublesome today. When I play with the volume at or above 4 on the amp, there's a whistling sound that starts when i don't play anything or when i palm mute the strings. It goes away when i have my NS-2 on (though it can still be heard for .5 sec at the end of everything i play) but it will not go away when its off. So i figured it must be a tube thats microphonic or bad or w/e. But thats when I noticed that if i lower (less tone) the tone pot on my guitar the noise goes away completely.
So I decided to try my other guitars. I tried an Epiphone with alinco style PUPs and 0 whistling even w/ volume at 8. I tried my Cort with EMG 81/85 and 0 whistling with volume at 8. I go back to my Ibanez w/ SH-6 and get the whistling. Lower the tone, and the whistling goes away.
Could this be a problem with the PUP? or just the wiring on the tone pot?
Would appreciate any advice.
