Amp Tech Question

Hi,

I just had a quick question for all of you. I'm about to order a quartet of JJ E34Ls from Eurotubes for my new JMP 2203. I was wondering if it is considered a "no no" by most techs to bring in your own tubes to be installed and biased.

There are only two techs I trust in my area and one carries Ruby EL34s and the other SED (Winged C). And while I suppose they might be able to aquire some JJ E34Ls if I told them that that's what I wanted, neither of them will give me the same guarentee on the tubes as Bob at Eurotubes.

Any thoughts?

You'll pay for the rebiasing anyway...Just tell the tech you want to try the tubes you're bringing in and that you've had them for a little while and you just need your amp biased..

Re: Amp Tech Question

Yeah, That will piss some techs off Cuz' they wanna sell you their
tubes at a markup.(They got bills to pay and family's to feed)
It's like taking your car in for a tuneup and giving the mechanic
your sparke plugs to install.

Re: Amp Tech Question

I've always taken in my own tubes. I'm so picky about what I use, and I am paying the tech for a service....that's the way I look at it. They charge a standard bench rate, and that's what you pay. Nothing wrong with taking all your stuff in and asking for it to be installed. No different than taking in a set of pickups and having them installed.

Exactly...The tech would get over it and still make his money on the service..

Re: Amp Tech Question

My tech prefers that I bring in my own tubes.

If a tech won't install your tubes and bias them, you need to find a new tech.

+1.. If the tech has a problem, find a different tech.....

New pickups is actually the perfect analogy.... While I personally despise Dimarzio´s business practices and politely refuse to order them for anyone, if you bring me a set of Dimarzios to install I´ll still put ´em in at 25€ a pop... Just as any good amp tech should do with tubes that you bring him ;)
