Amp troubles

Hey,
Could an amp sound good clean but sound ****ty (all settings sound tinny)when a distortion pedal is put through it? I have a brand new pedal and when i turn on any of the presets it sounds bad, so im wondering if something could have happened to my amp speaker and if it would only be triggered by distortion/effects?
Also, it does the same thing wirh my other pedal.

Have you tried using different cables? Start with the simple stuff first.

I have a Traynor DG60 amp, slash sig pickups and rp355 modeler, and also GNX3 modeler. I tried a different guitar which sounded the same, so i bought a new pedal which sounds the same, so now im thinking its the amp. But could the amp sound good when the guitar is plugged directly into it (the amp doesnt have a strong distortion, its very clean sounding) and then sound bad when i hook a pedal for crunch? Could an issue with the speaker react to the distortion created by the pedal?
I have 5 different patch cords and i've tried them all with no better sound.

Hm. I think your problem is the pedals, personally. The rp series tends to be notoriously bad, and while most of the gnx3 is acceptable, the distortion is not so much.

Fiddle around with various flavors of disto pedals at your local shop - or better yet (as the crowd is likely to shout any secind) just go ahead and trade your amp and pedals in on a smaller tube set up and prepare to have your mind blown

two ideas:
1) don't try to boost the ss amp. the distortion should be created within the pedal circuit and not by overdriving the ss amps input.
2) what speaker is in it? There are a couple of speakers that sound awesome when played clean and unuseable when trying to crank. best example imo: eminence legend 125

Overdriving the pre-amp of an S/S amp is a no no. It will ALWAYS sound bad. They're not designed for this. Set the amp clean and make sure that you're pedal doesn't increase the volume when you switch it on.
