Good point.
In addition to the diagram, many cables will have instrument or speaker cable printed on the jacket
Oh yeah, one other thing to check before I check out of this thread. Make sure you are using instrument cables and not speaker cables, speaker cables are not shielded and will introduce tons of noise into the system.
