Does anyone know what amp is best for blues, rock and a little jazz would be I want a head only.I have my own 4x12 cabinet.I build my own here.I am looking at the Marshall JCM2000 DSL and TSL at this time. But not sure if they will do all that I want them to do.

Re: Amp?

Fender twins and fender vibroverbs, JCM2000s might pull off some blues, but definately no good jazz is gonna come out of those things.

Re: Amp?

mesa boogie mark IV

incredible amp.

Whenever I play it, I get great jazz tones, great rock tones, blues tones and metal tones. It's a very versatile amp.

Re: Amp?

Super Reverb man. SRV used 'em, Derek Trucks uses 'em, even Wes Montgomery uses 'em. If that isn't enough endorsement, I don't know what is

Re: Amp?

I know that I'm an absolute Prince fanatic, but he does play some blues, some rock, and a little jazz. He plays Mesa Boogie amps, so I would assume that it would work for you as well.

Re: Amp?

mesa's are very versatile, despite their huge metal reputation. If you go with a Marshall i'd stay away from the TSL for your needs but you'd be better off getting an older style Marshall used somewhere

He specified "heads" so...

I've got the 60 watt Marshall TSL and its a great amp, but not probably the best suited for jazz.

Blue and rock would be okay, if you like it with a little (or alot) of dirt, but the cleans and jazz stuff would probably be best suited by a Fender. The Marshall is at its best when its loud and dirty.

Sounds like youre into more vintage or clean tones. If I were you, I'd look at some Fenders and a good distortion pedal to add dirt when needed.

Re: Amp?

Thank's all for helping me out here.
Now to let you all know I now have a Marshall JCM 2000 DSL 100 watt head.
Now it's time to hear my new 4x12 Speaker Cabinet that I made here.
I put in the Swamp Thang 16 ohms 150 watts x 4 = 600 watts cabinet.
Have fun all I sure am going to.
