Ampeg Lee Jackson Heads?

Hey everyone, do any of you have opinions on these amps? I'm looking at a 50 watt head for £200.

I've had the 3-channel combo version for years. Never liked anything except it's clean sound or the sound of a Line6 POD plugged into its fx return, but I think there's something seriously wrong with mine. (YMMV)

Absolute screamers, hot rodded Marshall to the 10th degree. Lot of tone options, I would have to think pretty hard about not buying it. Have you played it?

On aussie ebay there is a Ampeg Lee Jackson VL-1002 up for auction.

I've seen them doing the rounds on ebay and I've always wondered what they're like.

200GBP is a great price... I assume you mean the VL series with the "ignition key"...

For 200 pounds I think I´d just buy without even thinking... They´re really pretty good heads, supermodded marshalls essentially....

If you get it and it´s not your cup of tea after all please LMK, I´ll likely take it off you

Ah ballbags I missed it.

Down on the upside, now there is a peavey VTM up for grabs for next to nothing, are these the ones Kim Thayil used in Soundgarden?

The VTM does not sound as good as the Ampeg, but is still a cool head. There is one at the rehearsal space. It was what the 5150 was based on. Lot of tonal options with the tiny switches.

I love those old Ampegs. There's some serious tone dripping out those. Thing is, there's so much added gain that you have to back off it some or it starts to get buzzy but otherwise a killer sounding amp.
