amps that use 6v6 tubes

okay i have been kicking around the thought of another amp sometime in the future. What i want is a rather simple single or even dual channel amp that uses 6v6 power tubes and is not over 30 watts. I prefer to have simple controls though i need to have at least volume bass and treble controls. I would like a master volume too but i could live without it. I was really thinking about the Dr. Z Maz 28. Let me know what you guys think and what other amps i might want to look at. Thanks guys

I'd be looking at a Deluxe Reverb or 5E3 Deluxe clone. My brother makes a killer 5E3 Deluxe Clone that you can build yourself. It's based on my own two 50's Deluxes and sounds almost identical. http://www.missionamps.com

oooh i'd love to build my own amp...but my skills are extremely minimal... i'd checked out your brother's site...maybe one of these days i'll try it when i get my music room done so i'll have someplace to do it in?! (or try to do it i should say lol)

Yeah... I agree with Lew. I don't think you can find a better small Amp than a Deluxe Reverb. 12" speaker 6V6 tubes, 22 watts. One of the best small club Amps ever!! Great for Blues

Re: amps that use 6v6 tubes

The Dr Z amps are cool.
My only direct exposure to a 6V6 amp is my old Laney Pro Tube, and I HATE that amp!!!

Edit: of course, this could be b/c the amp sucks, tho ... :)

Scott,

I've been looking at Z's amps, too.

you might check out Myles Rose's page on Dr Z amps for his comments on these amps

you'll also find a link to a recent Guitar Player review of the Z 28

+1

I have two of these that go everywhere I go. I don't hit the road without them. They are super reliable, easily maintained...just wonderful amps.

I use them along with a couple old 82 JCM 800 1/2 stacks.

I also had a 60's Twin that someone long ago had re-worked a bit and put a single 15 in it. Doggone.....I wish I would have kept that amp !!!!!!!!!!!

Re: amps that use 6v6 tubes

Try the Mesa Blue Angel...6v6s and el84s, alone or together, and better reverb than the deluxe.
