AMT Chameleon Twin lead/Harmony Solo

Re: AMT Chameleon Twin lead/Harmony Solo

Ok, I just mailed their support ..lets see what they have to say about it..

Meanwhile I also pulled the trigger on this baby for $40.00...been meaning to get a decent cheap usable mic preamp for my mics anyway, (this issue apart) ...it'll probably help.

Some folk here will probably hate on it for being a Behringer :laugh2: ....but the reviews are mostly pretty great.

Re: AMT Chameleon Twin lead/Harmony Solo

Noticed your preamp channel volume is low on all four channels. You have tried turning up the channel volume also?

Re: AMT Chameleon Twin lead/Harmony Solo

Yes..I have...I've turned them up to around 1-2 o'clock (pretty loud) and tried recording like that...did'nt help much. Do you think jacking up the master volumes will make a difference? The thing is ...I've even tried recording my drive/distortion pedals (using the Chameleon pedal) direct into my loop pedal & handheld recorder & the problem's the same. Even with their (drive pedals) levels maxed out. If I go straight from the pedal to the looper or recorder..the VU meter levels are fine (recordable) but if I route it (pedal signal) through the chameleon the levels drop like a stone..barely tickling the green.

Re: AMT Chameleon Twin lead/Harmony Solo

I'm out of ideas if you have turned up volumes and still bately register. The fx loop works fine on the amp? Have you tried a dummy cable plugged into fx return? Have you tried keeping speaker unplugged? There is an fx loop on/off button - button is set to on?

Maybe best to wait to see what tech support says on it.

Re: AMT Chameleon Twin lead/Harmony Solo

Yeah to everything man...except I've not tried recording without the speaker connected.

Tech support got back to me already..so I'm trying to work it out with them. Thanks for all the suggestions..let's see how it goes.

Re: AMT Chameleon Twin lead/Harmony Solo

Good luck. Post the answer to the riddle whenever you get it figured out. I still havent tried the pedal with mine. Just with my other two amps and it worked how it was supposed to. The built in cab sim isn't bad on the Stonehead at least.

Re: AMT Chameleon Twin lead/Harmony Solo

Sure..I'll do that. It's really looking like an issue with the pedal to me though..

Here's a comparison of the waveforms (input gain maxed out on my handheld recorder/all settings unchanged for all 3 recordings/preamp vol @ 1 o'clock..)

Stonehead_Vs_Chameleon_Cab_Levels.jpg

..pretty big difference between those levels.

The Stonehead's sim is awesome..it works fine & does a great job. I wanted this pedal (Chameleon) more for my other 3 amps.

Re: AMT Chameleon Twin lead/Harmony Solo

Seems odd that it only has the low volume issue with the Stonehead and not your Bugera. What does the output wave look like with Bugera through the Chameleon?

Re: AMT Chameleon Twin lead/Harmony Solo

I have the same issue with the my Randall T2HL (100 watt hybrid) & little Chinese Goldea 15 watt head as well (plus most of my drive pedals). It's just the Bugera that works well with the Chameleon & that's probably because of it's tube-buffered FX loop (Button says "FX boost")

Re: AMT Chameleon Twin lead/Harmony Solo

I think it works good as a cab simulator... just clean up the low mids and add a touch of sparkle in the DAW.

Re: AMT Chameleon Twin lead/Harmony Solo

Yeah, Soundwise, there's no problem with the simulation ..it actually sounds great...way nicer than what I recorded, when dialed in right. The problem is getting the input levels high enough to drive it properly. However I just discovered it works pretty flawless with pedals when I use the headphone (1/8") output to record...but through the main (1/4") output jack it sounds like ass. That's why I think that jack (or something about it) might be screwed..

Re: AMT Chameleon Twin lead/Harmony Solo

Yeah ..AMT support says somethings wrong with it :(

Sucks..now I'll have to do the whole return/wait thing..

Re: AMT Chameleon Twin lead/Harmony Solo

....lol, thank god for crappy patch cables :D

Turns out it's working 100% & it actually sounds amazing..not muddy and dark & noisy like I thought it was before :)

The lousy 6" patch cable I'd been using from amp output's to the pedal input was the problem. Swapped that for another & it's now working fine with ALL my amps (and pedals) through both FX loops & preamp outputs..AND at whisper soft volumes..no hiss/noise issue either. Sounds killer through the headphone output too..

Here's some messing about with my Goldea 15 watt lunchbox (Raw mono track...no FX/pre/post prod..)

Recorded at ^^ that volume from the "preamp out" output :)
