in front of the amp, is it "real" like a real amp?or very digital tone ?

i know it can be a preamp, a cabinet simulation too

This video sold me on the E2. It's going to sound as good as what you're putting it through, e.g, the entire rig.

I sold mine long ago because it wasn't the tone I was chasing. That said, the E2 was great for the price. If you buy used, you can't go wrong. IMO, great alternative to more expensive options.

I have not tried myself any of these but from the demos all of them sound too damn close to the real thing, at least thru you tube and the owners claim it gets really close when used as a preamp into the FX return. If you want to switch between your amp¡s preamp and any of these preamp's you can use the boss LS-2, loop a would be your amp's preamp and loop your amt preamp. And those things are not digital emulators, are analog solid state preamps designed to sound like the amps.

Agree, the power amp section into overdrive at loud volume can color the tone for good or bad depending on the rig, also the speaker of choice and configuration. Basically you can try using the speaker used in ENGLs o MESA cabs and if your amp's power section has enough headroom it may not color the tone by the amt pedal (this may be good or bad depending on your rig). I personally use a ISP Stealth with lots of clean headroom and leave the tone to be just the SS-20 and the cab.

+1

That's one of the problems I hit with my rig. I had the headroom, but I was using the wrong cab/speaker setup. It didn't sound as well as it could have.

Edit: To the OP, if you're looking at high gain preamps, you should look into an ISP Theta. Pricey, but well worth it. Shop used.

The AMT pedal preamps sound great, and are analog so no, they don't sound digital at all.

Re: Amt pedal and best simulation for ENGL or MESA BOOGIE rectifier

I just got my amt e2 after a long wait and it's OK. I haven't used it in front of an amp yet but I've used the cab sim out and pre-amp out. I find it to be a little stiff and fizzy. I've been playing around with it for a little while now and I haven't gotten it to sound as good as the demo's on YouTube. It's a good pedal but I just haven't been able to jive with it yet. Might sell it soon to try something else

Oh man: I'd never even heard of these things until today, i clicked on this thread and then got all gassy for an e1 or an r1. Dont need or want the cabinet sim, so i didnt shop for the 2's...

I started price shopping and listening to samples and YouTube vids and comparison vids..... found an e1 on ebay for 49bucks! That bastard tricked me into clicking buy it now! Ok it wasnt a trick....i just clicked it

Cant wait to plug that mofo in!

Its coming all the way from Russia, so i imagine I'll be waiting for a while.

The "1" series do have cabinet simulators, they don't have the clean channel. The "2" series also have an output to use in front of an amp.

i can have a triple wreck wampler or us steel tech 21

Re: Amt pedal and best simulation for ENGL or MESA BOOGIE rectifier

I have had my D2 for a year now, and in front of a tube amp on the clean sound it is awesome, huge bottom end and overall massive distortion and sustain ! It is the only distortion pedal I use now if I need the extra grind! I used it on a Blackstar id-30 non tube combo thru the front and it sounded great too.

Try the AMT D2 Diezel pedal through the front end..sounds huge and responsive, not a sterile sounding pedal, and the controls really do make a difference,I highly recommend this pedal, and even at low bedroom volumes it retains its sound,as close to a real Diezel as I will ever get! Also mine is not overly noisy,i mean its a maximum gain pedal, so there is a little noise there, but it doesn't take much to knock it out with a Isp Decimator or a Boss NS-2 noise suppressor.

Re: Amt pedal and best simulation for ENGL or MESA BOOGIE rectifier

the AMt pedals will be my next quest
with the Empress (grey model)
and the Mesa boogie throttle box eq
and the blackstar metal (i have the ht dual)
after that, i think i could buy an amp for metal lol

Re: Amt pedal and best simulation for ENGL or MESA BOOGIE rectifier

The Fractal AX8 does seriously good Mesa and ENGL simulations. Expensive. But that is the only thing I've heard that can do both (and a lot more).

If these are your only 2 choices, I can't really comment on either. I have used the Tech 21 British and Leeds and really like them though.
