An easy one (TB6 question)

I really like the JB i have in my Aria pro II. It works great with the JCA100 i have, the bottom end doesn't get muddy... very very nice. I have an Ibanez S520 series that has a dimarzio evo2 in the bridge that i really don't like. It doesn't have enough output and the chugs are all mud. I want the basic sound i have with the JB with a little more oomph and bite. Am i correct in thinking the TB6 is for me? I read all the reviews, searched the forums, watched the you tube videos(what i could find); before i pull the trigger i just wanted to get your guys opinion. Thanks.

Yup the Duncan Distortion is devestating. Highly recommended

Re: An easy one (TB6 question)

I find the TB-6 has a lot more bite than the TB-4.

PATB-2 Parallel Axis Distortion is another nice option. It's smoother than the TB-6 for leads, but has thicker mids and more growl than a TB-4 or TB-6. For riffs, it's got a bit of Invader flavor, but not as dark. Not as bass-heavy as the Invader for thrash rhythm, a bit closer to the conventional Distortion.

It's a beefier pickup, great for thickening up a thinner, floating vibrato bridge superstrat. Insane harmonics, better sustain and lower string pull than the TB-6.

The TB-6 has a bit of grating presence that is fairly hard to smooth out. PATB-2 is close, but just enough less of a presence peak that it's much easier to EQ for however much bite you want. Some people do LOVE the TB-6 for thrash rhythms, and don't want to lose ANY bite. For me, with the PATB-2 thrash tones I like are within reach with a half a notch or so increase on the amp's presence control. Reverse doesn't get the TB-6 where I want for leads and riffs.

One or the other is likely to do exactly what you want. Which works better for you may depend on the guitar.

Re: An easy one (TB6 question)

I am also a longtime JB user and recently i installed one in my friends Aria Les Paul. A real winner in this guitar.

On the other hand i had the same idea as you and bought a use SH-6. I couldn't get along with this hard ceramic sound and swapped in a Alnico 8 in the SH-4. It was a fuller JB sound with a tad less highs and more bottom (bass and low mids). More beef and guts.

Re: An easy one (TB6 question)

Thanks guys. The thing is the Ibanez is a real dark sounding guitar and I fear that adding more bass would make it too muddy. In my mind the jb is a great balance if organic high gain tone and i dont want too much output that would make it sterile feeling. I'll check out that PATB 2 thanks
