An Idea for the forum.

I was browsing the Dimarzio forum and noticed they have a "everything you want to know section". I found this very helpful as I was able to get a real world idea of what these pickups sound like and how I can use them.

I think we should attempt something of that nature. Let's say each week we pick a model and just tell our experiences with them. Things like magnet swaps, coil splitting, how the pickup works with the amp and our playing would all be fair game.

Obviously, this a big project but, I think it's worthwhile for new and old members alike. So you guys wanna help with this?

Re: An Idea for the forum.

Isn't the Duncan forum already "everything you want to know"? I thought we already do that.

Re: An Idea for the forum.

You can just start a mega-tread in the pickup forum.

I feel a mega-thread would just be too unorganized. If it divided up by model and kept separate from regular posts I think it would be easier.

I think people would just do a general search to find the right thread anyway, which is what they do now...or a Google search. They eventually end up in the right place. I think it is a good idea for browsing, but it could also get disorganized and off topic very quickly, especially when comparing pickups.

Re: An Idea for the forum.

Interesting idea, but if we stickied every model separately, all the other discussions would be pushed to the 2nd or 3rd page.

Re: An Idea for the forum.

It would have to be a separate forum room and you'd have to structure it so it does just turn into another redundant pickup room. I can see the benefit and ease of finding model info, as the total number of threads would be limited by the number of pickups SD makes, but I'm not sure the board (SD Company) has the resources or desire to add another room. I'd think there would need to be a standard form or page to fill out, otherwise it's a ton of work compared to people simply using the search function to find specific pickup info; and the search function works pretty well here.

Re: An Idea for the forum.

There are discussions about specific pickups, and then there are discussions about various pickups.

Hard to separate the two. I see what you are talking about though.

Re: An Idea for the forum.

We have a vault for the good stuff, they can just go there. Maybe it does need a bit of organizing though.

Re: An Idea for the forum.

As the Co. hasn't fixed the site after three years of the debacle, I certainly doubt they'll do anything that has to do with the Forum.
