I was a littke shocked.
. We need to know what pickups he had in the strat and what pickups he wanted to put in when he got rid of it.

i knew he had a white strat, didnt know it was sunburst and he painted it, i thought it was a white strat from the factory. i made myself a strat years ago, dang like almost 20 years ago now that im thinking about it, sprayed a three color burst then olympic white over it. still one of my best sounding strats

Very doubtful. Blackmore and Hendrix played Strats and that didn't change the game. Iron Maiden and Malmsteen in the 80's didn't increase Strat adoption. Heavy metal is not the best application for a standard SSS Strat for most people in MY opinion.

He used his 335 exclusively until In Rock. He didn't own a Strat on the early Deep Purple (1st 4 albums). He was also using an AC30 then.
