An interesting article on Iommi

the godfather of metal playin a white strat does really sit right with me

Man we had our one shot for metal guys to realize you don't need goofy high output pickups and we lost it.

There are a handful of pics out there where he has his Strat. Strange to think that it is on some of the tunes from the first Sabbath album, too, as it doesn't sound like it.

there was no pickups back then. it was fender for fenders or gibsons for gibsons for the most part in 1968

Tony's Strat was originally sunburst, which he painted white. Pre-CBS one no doubt. It

As already mentioned, he used it in Jethro Tull (and earlier), and it appears on the Rolling Stones' Circus gig.

i knew he had a white strat, didnt know it was sunburst and he painted it, i thought it was a white strat from the factory. i made myself a strat years ago, dang like almost 20 years ago now that im thinking about it, sprayed a three color burst then olympic white over it. still one of my best sounding strats

He would hae changed the shape of metal if he stuck with it.

Very doubtful. Blackmore and Hendrix played Strats and that didn't change the game. Iron Maiden and Malmsteen in the 80's didn't increase Strat adoption. Heavy metal is not the best application for a standard SSS Strat for most people in MY opinion.
