Well, after getting my Analog Man King of Tone pedal I got a chance to snag up another one of Mike's signature pedals, Thanks again Zack!
Anyway, I did have to give up a mihgt sweet handmade booster pedal to get it and while I do miss the other pedal this one is much more suited for what Im doing with it.
I figured after checking out my KoT and looking at the quality of it's build quality and listening to the tones I got out of it I decided I couldn;t loost with another AM pedal!
For those that don't know the Beano Boost is a clone of the famed Dallas Rangemaster Treble Booster. Now, if you don;t know what a Ranmgemaster is...read up, you need to know this! I will more than likely never have an original Rangemaster as the original units bring in excess of a grand these days but the AM Beano is as close as anoybody can get...right down to a NOS, made in England NKT 275 germanium tranny!!
It has a 3 way tone switch...the middle selection is the stock Rangemaster setting then there is one with more mids and one with more lows. If you play a Gibson gutar (or something with buckers) and a Marshall or tweed(ish) Fender amp this pedal kills...it does well with other things but it really excells with buckers and amps that are on the darkish or midrangy side.
It is not a stand alone distortion unit or even an overdrive but if the amp is alreay cooking the Beano will push oyu to a whole new place...more gain, sustain and a nice treble (actually kind or upper middy) bite to the notes that make them cut through the mix and add some agression to the overall tone.
Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Tony Iommi, Rory Gallagher, Brian May and even georget Lynch know about this wonderful effect since they all have or had original Rangermasters and used them at one point...and I know why!
