Hey Guys,
I am trying to get an idea of the sonic difference between these two companys mods on the Boss BD-2. I have a freind that plays a Keeley modded Blues Driver and it sounds great. Only problem is he can make anything sound great. Anyone have and experience with either of these companys modded Blues Driver that they can share.
Thanks alot

Don't forget Monte Allums, too. The downside is he sells DIY kits. They're not hard to install, but you need to know which end of the soldering iron to hold. The upside is that Monte has complete descriptions of what each mod kit includes, and a good sound clips to compare. I've had some good luck with his kits lately. Hoiwever, I can't give any specific BD-2 advice; I'm just not a BD-2 kinda guy.

BTW, your SG-horn avatar is really cool.

Joe - your sig is hysterical.

If you're interested I can post you the old mod that Keeley used to do on BD-2s . . . they you could just get the components yourself and try it out. You need some basic soldering skills though.

Re: Analog Man Vs. Keeley mod

How is it diffrent than the current one? Also I see you use a BD-2, is yours modded and howw do you like it?
Thanks

I have the Analog Man BD-2/Super mod, and it's one of the most versatile pedals I own. I'll never sell it.

Re: Analog Man Vs. Keeley mod

I have done several Monte Allums kits including the BD-2 and they are all great. I was very dissapointed in the BD2 because it was just too harsh sounding with SC pups although pretty good but not great with HB's.

The kit made the pedal what it should have been, a transparent OD machine that swings all the way from clean boost to ripping OD that still sounds like you and your guitar. The tone sweep is wider and you can actually USE it now without making mud or fizz. It even has an optional cap on the tone stack to give it a slight TS like mid hump or you can just leave it out.

Keep in mind that I did this about 2-3 years ago and there is a 2nd version out now with more gain and a switch I think. Mine is the original which is still offered.

There is a thread about this on the Fender FDP forum right now with a guy saying he has A/B'd the monte and keely and the monte won in his opinion. All I know is that it's a fantastic upgrade and a no brainer for $20. Besides the cheap bastard in me has a problem paying $70 bucks for $2 worth of parts.

I like my BD-2 . . . I liked it to begin with, but found it was a little too shrill and cut some of the bass away from my guitar. The mod that I did made the pedal quieter when the gain is up, and changed the tone range. Now I can go from deep/warm to bright/buzzy and anywhere in between. My BD-2 is modded with some changes that Keeley posted a few years back on his website . . . if you're interested in them, just PM me and I'll send them to you.
