Better FX sound better. The bulk of the high-end studio stuff (reverbs, delays, and modulation anyway) is all digital and I wouldn't exactly say that they sound band.
There's a ton of good analog stuff out there, too, though long analog delays tend to be pricey due to hardware costs.
Most of the FX in my rig are digital and I think they sound fine. I must admit a general prejudice against most digital OD/distortion devices though my POD XTL does have some nice digital OD.
