I bought one of the Way Huge Green Rhino OD's as soon as they hit the stores. I knew it was going to be a good OD, and I'm always curious about anything that could potentially come close in tonal quality to my Klon Centaur. In my opinion and the opinion of many others, the Klon is the end of the road...the best. There's not been one single OD pedal that I can honestly say beats the Klon.
And no...the Green Rhino doesn't beat it. But I noticed something really unique about the Green Rhino. Even though it's touted as a Tubescreamer variant, and it is, the midrange focus is way different. This is one of the only OD's that accentuates the LOW MIDS. Almost every other OD claims to be neutral or accentuates the mids or high mids. The Green Rhino is the low mid monster. That's what it does best.....beefy low mid grunt. But man, does that ever create a nice fat lead tone!
In my mind, I really didn't remember what 100Hz sounded like, because that's the main focus of the GR....the 100Hz knob that separates it from all other OD's.
I'm curious to hear what other Green Rhino owners have to say. I know you'll agree that your other OD's are shifted higher, while the GR is on the low frequency end of the tonal spectrum. Here's what 100Hz sounds like.
