And a new pedal build...

My most complex to date as well. I'll have to take a short break from building as I'm waiting for some 1k resistors since I'm all out and those are quite common in pedals.

6 pots, 2 footswitches, 2 leds, 1 mini-switch = tight fit in a 1590bb enclosure.

Killer pedal so far but I haven't played it at high volume yet. Pretty high gain with lots of clarity to it.
The boost turns things to fuzz more than distortion, therefore to me more useful for leads and solos than chords. The boost-pot doesn't change the amount of boost available, just its eq (basically a bigmuff tonestack).
The "hard" mode is a bit dull to my ears (again, waiting to hear this thing at higher volumes before passing judgement) and the brutal mode is where it's at for the recto-ish stuff.

Acid-etched. I didn't have much space to do anything remotely artsy so I just went very basic with borders and my crappy hand-writing. Still, I included the geeky equation.

Green led for the distortion side, white led for the boost.

Cheers!

Ah, I remember you talking about that Phil. Sweet. For the "hard" mode maybe you should just get to cranking one of your Oranges with it. :D

Wow, looks complex! If you don't use pedals much, whatcha do with all these?

Re: And a new pedal build...

What is it a clone of?

Thought the geeky equation was enough to give it away... the cubic-root of 27 is 3. 3xrecto = ?

Wampler Triple Wreck.

That's a sick build you've got there!

Thanks man! I like it so far. GEtting uninsipired with the etching these days. I need to get fancier I think. However, it wasn't really possible with this one, too much stuff to label.

Yeah, I can't wait to find time when the kid's not sleeping to crank it a bit.

I flood the market with pricier versions of pricey pedals. That way I'm evil and rich!

Seriously though: it's the learning process that I enjoy. I try not to just follow a recipe but learn a bit or a lot about the different circuits I build. For example, building a couple of big muffs taught me about their unique tonestack. Building "amp-inspired" pedals teaches me about cascading jfets to replicate the pre-amp tubes of an amp, etc...

I enjoy the challenge of building more complex things as well. I "improve" my skills a bit everytime. I learned about putting two different circuits in the same enclosure, which isn't as simple as one would think...etc.

I start to learn what I like and dislike in "circuits" rather than in "pedals" if that makes any sense to anyone.

There's a certain rush you get when you plug in a circuit and it fires up right away too!

I don't use them much (although the boosters I love, TS-style pedals work well with what I do with my band at the moment as well) but others have their uses too. When I need a good compressor, I reach for my Ross clone. When I need a good trem, I reach for my personally-tweaked EA trem, etc...

Mostly it's just fun and I've bought enough parts to build 90% of the pedals out there without having to order anything. I just sit down and build...

Nice build, and thanks for including gut shots first post. I'm waiting on a mound of parts myself, then I'll be joining you with more threads like these

Very cool man!

Re: And a new pedal build...

You are as prolific a pedal builder as I am a riff writer. I salute you, sir. :)

That's a nice compliment friend! And still, I'm no slouch when it comes to writing songs (lyrics is my mastery of choice though) ;)

Excellent... can't wait to see your work!

Very cool man!
