Ferrari
Yacht
Diamond encrusted watch
Travel the world
A Banjo

I'd be giving it to charitys and buying homes for the people who lost everything to hurricane Katrina before I bought any of that stuff for myself.

To each their own...

Re: And I thought guitars could be expensive...

the 1932 Gibson Mastertone Granada Banjo (5-string) is the 1959 LP of Banjos.
the pre-war ,loar-era ,loar signed Gibson F-5 Mandolin is the 1959 LP of Mandolins.
the pre-war Martin D-45 is the 1959 LP of flat top acoustics.

and, IMO, the '50s Les Paul Standards are the Stradivarius of the electric guitar.

dude, look at upright basses

WAY more expensive than violins

you have to drop about a grand to get a 'decent' one

strings are $120! and that's for d'addarios!

I think you may be mistaken...
I'll find more reputable pricing, but for now, the most expensive bass on ebay is sitting at $5k, while the most expensive violin is $6,143.

The strings aren't really comparable, either. You're gonna replace violin strings far more than bass strings.

most musician who uses instruments wants to use/own the "holy grail" of their respective instrument. now, how much is the holy grail of violins and how much is the holy grail of upright basses?
BTW, i'm not a violinist but they say you have to drop at least $10K for a decent violin

Also, decent Violin Strings, Like Thomastik-Infeld run about $50 a set...

My dad has a couple violins, and he told me once that one of the bows was worth more than his car :)
