And... like zzmoore said... it would be something really stupid. (Mesa issue pt 374.)

So I would normally play with the mid boost on. And crank it a bit for gain. Always sounded really good. After almost $1,000 of tech work by 3 different people today I cranked it and the crackling sound was still there. I was messing with it and pulling on the push pull pots. I noticed that as I hit a chord and the crackling came into the sound, as soon as I pushed the mid boost down the crackling instantly stopped. I cranked the mids on the normal eq and it was perfectly fine. No crackle. I did it again... as soon as I put my finger on the knob it stopped. I think the pot is loose or needs to be replaced. But after almost a year of pain, misery and anguish the problem is gone? I really hope so. ****, I feel like a dumbass but damn... if that was the problem and no tech found it, I guess I shouldn't feel that bad. :/

Dude! Well after that you gotta wonder what the techs were "fixing" But hey great it sounds like you at least isolated it. Its always the small things.

Lolz. I hope that's it. Mine was a different deal, but yeah, no way you can run loud with some of the pots pulled. Treble shift was a no-no, treble above 7.5, etc.

I would ask for a refund from Mesa if they didn't fix it! Really...I would be rattling cages first thing Monday.

I have a guitar with an old Alnico II Pro neck humbucker in it. For the past month I have been getting a subtle crackle from it. At first I thought it might be bad wiring in the apartment I'm living in. Even though the wiring is bad here, I am not getting crackly from my other guitars or this guitar from the bridge humbucker. Before I figured out it is not the wiring of the building I had replaced the power supply for my pedals. Oops. I am glad I did not start replacing tubes in my amp either. So, just last week I was turning the tone pot on the neck humbucker a bit and the crackle would become static. I really am hoping that is all it is. I ordered some new pots (because I should have some extras laying around for times like these) and I can't wait to swap it out to see if that fixes it. I really do not want it to be the pickup. I bought this A2P off craigslist about 6 years ago now. It was old then, looks really beat up and I have no idea how old it is but it sounds great (besides the crackle).

Anyway, I hope changing your pot solves all your problems too.

Re: And... like zzmoore said... it would be something really stupid. (Mesa issue pt 3

Best way to tell if the pot is the problem (in the guitar, anyway) is to bypass it. Not sure of you can bypass the amp's pot, though I do wonder if you can jump a new pot to the existing one's prongs as a "remote control"? If so, and the jumpered pot doesn't crackle, then it may very well be the pot.

I'm starting to think that maybe you should just play acoustic. you have absolutely no luck with amplifiers.

Lol ^. Yeah I would demand some money back, doubt you'll get any as I bet Mesa is real stingy as most other repair shops. But you can at least try. That's ridiculous. It shows that the tech didn't even plug in the chassis, and if he did, he didn't test all the functions which you paid him hundreds of dollars to fix. Matter of fact, give me his number and I'll argue on your behalf. There's nothing more I hate than a tech fixing what doesn't need to be fixed, and then not fixing anything. Reminds me of a mechanic
