I'd say 16

if it's two 16 ohm speakers wired parallel, then it's 8 ohm

the head should match the speaker load

They're actually 2 8ohm speakers wired in series (16ohms)......so if both cabs are 16ohms, does it equal a 16 ohm load off the amp or 8ohms (both cabs running from the speaker outs of the amp)?

This gets really confusing for me....but I think when you run 2 cabs together, they are in series. If that's the case, wouldn't the load be 8 ohms. I'd hate to fry a head! Robert always seemed to be able to rattle this stuff right off.

sorry, I misread your original post ... (2) 2x12 16 ohm cabs cabs, if connected in parallel, would be 8 ohms

Yeah, I'm confusing myself too.....couldn't just build a 4x12 !!!!!


I built another 2x12 & it's gonna be wired the same as the other (16ohm) as soon as I get my 4th speaker. I too would hate to damage my new amp!!!!! :smack:

2 cabs running in parallel = Half the impedance, so 8 ohms total. This means that if you have an amp that has one impedance setting, but 2 speaker outs (OR a combo with an out for an extension cab that doesn´t cut the internal one, so a Mesa, Fender, H&K, Laney, Marshall....), it gets set to 8 ohms. If you have multiple outs that are rated by ohmage, there should be 2 16 ohm outs.

On the other hand, If they´re daisy chained after each other to run off one input, then you should rewire them internally to 4 ohms (2 8 ohm speakers in parallel), otherwise you´ll have a load of 32 ohms
