Actually I have a white F-Spaced (these are used for strat like guitars right ?) in white (dp224 to be exact). Anyway still looking for that hot warm tone form this pickup. With or without the tube screamer I'm still missing the creamy warm tone in the bridge. Quite frustrating actually . I'll book me a practice room for really testing the amp although I have a feeling that this won't help as I saw many videos where the AT100 was used and I do not think that the amp was cranked to high volumes (and still heard that beautiful tone). So either I bought a replica , or maybe I have wiring problems (I doubt it since the pickup is working alright with no buzzes ,it just does not have that warmth I was expecting) or maybe its the guitar itself (alder body + maple neck which seems fine I think)

Maybe that pickups just not for you.

Maybe you need an attenuator for your amp to get some push at apartment levels. You said it's a 50 watt tube Marshall, right?

I have a 50watt combo Engl Screamer AMP. As some answers implied I should try it in louder levels (going to test that on my weekend after I find a decent place for that ) but It is strange because the neck pickup (DP187 aka "The Crusier" ) used with the Carl Martin and the Tube Screamer sounds perfect! (with all the punches and fatness heard when Andy Timmons plays with it in his tracks) so I assumed I should get the desired result from the DP224 bridge pickup as well.

I will look for an attenuator as I probably need it regardless

What do you know about me to answer with such a very informative answer ??? I'd expect from an "Ultimate Tone Member" to either elaborate on a such an answer, or provide a solution to the problem or not answer at all.

That was the solution. Try a different pickup, cause that ones not working for ya.

I've tried several pickups that look good to me on paper or because I like the tone someone else gets with it... but it just doesn't work for me. it can be my style or my rig or whatever. that's why there are so many pickups available these days... something for everyone.

additionally, 99.9% of the people here are end users and not SD staff. we only know about what we have dealt with, as the real experts would be the ones when you call in to SD tech support... or in the case of the AT-1, the DiMarzio tech support. have you tried the DiMarzio forum? track down a cat named Luijo.

anyway, I will definitely going to try some other pickups regardless of this issue. Hope I will find the right one ...

I would add to that: A pickup that sounds PERFECT in one guitar may not sound perfect, or might sound downright awful in another. I use about 20 different models of pickup right now, at least. It's a matter of matching the pickup to the wood, which is a matter of trial and error. You can narrow down the list of candidates a whole lot by knowing what pickup you're starting with and what you do/don't like about it, and looking at specs or your personal knowledge of other pickups to have an idea what might work. Sometimes you get it right on the first guess, sometimes you don't.

How much have you played with the height? I've had a few pickups that sound outright terrible until you hit the sweet spot height wise, like the DiMarzio D-Activators I have in my Mean Street Exile. Found the right height and they sound better than I thought even expected.

Any luck?

It takes a little bit sometimes to really find the right spot. A lot of quarter turns of that screw once you get it roughly where you want it.

I agree that some guitars just don't work with some pickups. I had a guitar that sounded horrible with a super distortion but the exact same thing works amazing in another guitar.

Conversely I have s9me guitats that get a set and that set stays there forever.the pup works amazing and I have no wishes. Period. Some guitars are so kind they accept all pickuos and since I can swap necks on my les pauls I can test the necks and bodies. The best of the best go well with every neck or body I pair them with and handle each pickup equally well.

My point is I have a lot of gear


No just kidding. My point is that each guitar is like a woman; no 2 specimens should be approached similarly.

Yeah I tried very close to the strings and very far from them and did not notice a significant change. I'll try more fine tuning as you suggested.

Do your tests without distortion. Whatever distortion you may be using is probably compressing the signal and masking the differences.
