Angling trembucker in bridge..?

I was thinking about getting a JB TB-4 installed in the bridge at an angle. I'll be using a 2TEK guitar bridge (the one Warmoth offers)

I've read in various places saying that angling the pickup gives better treble response and stuff but I've also read in other places that angling was to make it so that humbucker string spacings lined up properly. Since strat single coils angle too, I thought that reason was false.

Would I be right in getting a trembucker for my strat's bridge? Or would it be smarter to go straight for the humbucker instead?

The best thing to do is try it for yourself both ways. I can't think of any logical reason why any of what you have heard would necessarily be true, but each guitar is its own thing and sometimes the most illogical things can occur.

Strat bridge pickups certainly put the pickup in a different place to it sitting flat across, so the treble strings read in a closer posi.....or the bass strings read further away from the bridge. But a humbucker has a wider window anyhow......and you are more likely moving poles away from under strings with an angle.

Just go a trembucker and you'll have plenty of coverage.

Re: Angling trembucker in bridge..?

I think the original idea in the 80s was to get the poles to line up. If that is the case, get a regular humbucker, and use the slant as a 'look' thing. If you want better treble resonse, get a Trembucker with with better treble response (Distortion, Pearly Gates) and don't worry about the angle thing.

Re: Angling trembucker in bridge..?

Angling a humbucker gives you no advantage at all. Because of the width of a bucker compared to a single coil, you already have the advantage of picking up string vibration at different points. None of the poles will line up with any of the strings and it looks so incredibly ugly I can't even imagine anyone wanting to massacre the looks of their guitar in such a way.

If your guitar has normal string spacing just get a regular humbucker. If it has trem spacing, get either humbucker or trembucker...it won't make any difference in tone, but you may like the looks of the strings lining up with the poles of the trembucker (it is such a slight difference, nobody but you will ever notice it.

The 2TEK bridge has a string spacing of 2 1/16" (52.39mm)

Would you suggest grabbing a trembucker then? ^^

Re: Angling trembucker in bridge..?

Trembuckers were developed so you didn't have to slant the pickup....

Re: Angling trembucker in bridge..?

You would only need to do this if you could fit a hot dog between the strings!

Decided to just grab a trem and route it normally. Thank you for the feedback peoples ^^
