Angus Young Tone

Hey guys!
I recently watched the Rig Rundown of AC/DC on youtube.

In the video they talk about pickups and the guitar tech mentions that Angus uses custom Seymour Duncans. The host asks him which off the shelf pickups come close but we get no clear answer.

I was wondering if any of you could recommend some existing pickups that can replicate the tone of Angus. Obviously it doesn't have to be a perfect match, rather something in the ballpark.
I know that a huge part of his sound is his playing, guitar and amp etc. I'm just curious about pickups.

The only criteria are that they have to be currently available and reasonably priced.

Welcome to the forum!

I don't know if this is considered 'affordable', but there is the High Voltage humbucker set, which is about as close as you will get. In the description, it does mention the Pearly Gates, so that is a cheaper alternative.

Yup PG would work.

Funny enough when I was in an AC/DC tribute I got a more accurate tone with my squier strat with a C8/59 then I did with the SG I had...go figure.

Haven’t watched the vid, so don’t know if they mention it, but elsewhere have seen/read that a lot of his tone is due to the buffer in his wireless unit.

I have a Thunderstruck SG and an SG with the PG in the bridge.

Not to derail, but I may try that in the '59 in my Squier Strat. Just got my magnets in the mail today, and one of them happens to be a C8.

I had always thought a 59 would be better for Angus tone than PGs

PG, Seth or Jazz neck with either PG bridge or Whole Lotta Humbucker bridge will also get you there, IME.
