Anituity II Strat Pups!!! Got To Love Them!

I've been playing my Antiquity II Strat pups for about 3 months now and I continue to be amazed by this pickup. Yeah, they do the clean chimey thing really well, like SRV on Lenny, but damn are they great for blues. I was playing Tightrope with the band they other night and I couldn't believe how good the guitar sounded with just a little bit of dirt from my TubeScreamer.
Of course I play through a Dr. Z Maz JR and that does help but still. I had a stock American Strat and those pickups sounded like toys compared to these.

(sure this post has a lot of opinion stuff and not much tech talk but what the hell, I'm just really happy with my SD Antiquity II's)

Anyone else had similar experiences?

I'll let you know what I think when I get a set soon.

The best money can buy. Also, I get a kick out of unwrapping a new set from the fancy boxes, and seeing all the filter dust all over the pickups, as if they'd just been pulled from a 63 that's been sitting in a blues club for 40 years. Seymour goes to a lot of extra trouble to recreate all the small details, but the main thing is the tone.

I recently put an Antiquity I Texas Hot neck and Custom Bridge in my Texas Special Strat. While I really like the bridge pickup, the neck Texas Hot tends to mush out and become muddled and indistinct with overdrive. I'm going to exchange it for an Antiquity II Surfer and hope that clears up the sound at the neck. I'm ordering a RWRP Surfer so it will play nicely with the Texas Special RWRP pickup in the middle, as the latter works well with the Ant I Custom bridge now.

Great PUP's ..... I really like the tone of the standard Antiquities myself but I have to admit I think the Antiquity II's are more verstile.

John, why do you think that the Surfer's are more verstile?

i'm gonna jump in here. the alnico 2 magnets on the regular antiquities are a bit darker sounding whereas the alnico 5 magnets on the antiquity II's are more chimey. both sound good, but i feel like i can get better clean strat tones with the alnico 5 magnets as well as a real vintage sounding overdrive. it just works better for me. while the alnico 2 magnets tend to sound a little midrangey in my strat. i don't know for sure that are predisposed to more midrange, but to me it sounds like the absence of more treble frequencies tend to bring this out of the pickup. but every guitar is different, the regular antiquities would probably sound real nice in an ashbodied, maple neck strat. but my strat has an alder body and brazilian board so i need all the pop i can get.

Love them. Think they are one of the best out there with van zandt's vintage +'s, fralin's vintage hots. Great pickups.

Those are my three faves too. The good Doctor B. is right on the money...as usual. :beerchug: Lew
