Annihilator Alice in Hell tone part deux

I may have gotten a bit closer with a bill lawrence L500L and the use of a super OD in front of the GSP. Not sure why I'm obsessing about this.

It's funny - he really speeds up after the stop. I don't know if that's intentional or not but I never realized that until I tried to play along with him. I kept messing up until I noticed the speed change.

mine (probably didn't spend enough time eq-ing but in the ballpark):

& full (riff being dissected is around 35 sec in) -

Sounds great ....slightly more lower mids in your version & the original sounds a bit "drier" to me..

I'll say this, that album has some of my absolute favorite guitar tones ever! I mean it's flat amazing!!
I think you are right there brother!
You put that recorded riff into the mix and it would be super difficult to hear any difference.

Thanks for checking it out & commenting guys. That album has probably my favorite thrash tones from any era. I can't claim to play as tight as jeff, he's a freak.

Man, your tone is SOOO close. I would record it as-is and then look to EQ some of the 3-400Hz mud out and also use a high pass filter at around 100-150Hz and I think it would be spot on!

Pretty much nailed it. I think it just needs some crispy treble but not too much.

awesome - I'll see what that does. Initially, I used a low pass but I don't think I used a high one. The other Eq stuff was done using voxengo's overtone EQ - I guess it colors things, but maybe it does it in a good way for guitar (plus, I like slider EQs over the ones that look like a graph, which is how most are). I don't have a matching EQ but I should just buy one, I seem to always want to use it.

edit: oh yeah, taking down at 350 by about 2.5 db pretty much sets it right in there.

yeah, I'll look again to see where his is spiked a bit. I was surprised how much high end he had rolled off compared to where I had started.
