I purchased an old guitar about 10 years ago. Someone had put a Charvel neck onto a Kramer. So, recently I decided to make this a project guitar. I replaced tuners, pickups, pots, jack, wires, tremolo, and switch. It has one volume, one tone, a three way switch. I bought a JB for the bridge and Pearly Gates for the neck. I like the 80's hair metal and the heavier type of stuff. George Lynch is my favorite.
Well anyways, I get this hum with a sort of high pitched squeal. I don't have any feedback with my Kramer SM-1 with Active EMG's. I've rewired it several of times replacing the electronics. Same thing. I downloaded the wiring diagram from Seymour for the 1 volume, 1 tone, and a 3-way switch. I can't figure it out. The layout is this. If you flip the guitar over with the neck in the 12 o'clock position, you have the volume first which is to the upper right of the control cavity area, then the switch in the left middle position and then the tone below in line with the volume, and the jack is in the lower left corner of the cavity.
I've tried everything. The longest running wires are from the tremolo to the back of the tone pot and a wire from the hot jack to the lug on the volume pot. I currently have shielded wires running for these two, but same thing. I've followed the wiring diagram exactly except for trying the shielded wire for the longer two. I split the inner wire and the braided wire on the hot jack by inner wire to the hot and the braided wire to the ground along with the other ground wire going to the back of the tone pot. On the other end same thing, hot to the lug and braided to the back of the volume pot. The tremolo, I braided and tinged the inner and braided wire together on both ends. What am I missing or doing wrong?
