Another 10" Thread

I just received an Emi Copperhead for my Fender 65 Princeton Reverb. It doesn’t seem to be quite the right speaker for my playing so I’m looking for suggestions on an alternative.

The stock Jensen C10R Reissue has great sparkle although a little harsh, and lacking in the low end. The Copperhead seems to solve those issues but doesn’t have the sparkle I’m looking for. I’m thinking that something in between the two might be the answer.

After looking at the Emi choices it seemed like the Copperhead was going to be the closest. Another popular choice is the Raging Cajun, but I get the impression it's even less sparkly than the Copperhead.

So, what I’m looking for is tight bass, slightly scooped mids, sparkle on top and later breakup. Any suggestions?

webervst best 10"s in the world

the raging cajun actually has more top end than the copperhead but doesnt have the same character to the mids. a jensen c10q or something with a bigger voice coil should be less harsh and have a fuller tone. i still wont ever buy another 10" that isnt a weber

Re: Another 10" Thread

I put a Weber 10F150-T in both of my Princeton Reverb builds and have never looked back. They simply make the amp sound the way it should IMHO and that matches what you asked for pretty well. It sounds very close to an actual 1965 BF P.R. I had access too except the Weber has a tighter low end and the highs are slightly better defined. (Remember it was a 40+ year old speaker... )

BTW Jeremy and Ted Weber both recommended that speaker for that amp. IRRC Ted told me to get it with "light doping", but just send him in an email. He will get back to you.

If you could squeeze a 12" in there you probably wouldn't have posted this.....but just incase you can go up to a 12", the Emi Red, White & Blues would probably fit the bill....

check out the specs on the eminence site:

Eminence Red White and Blues

Has everything you want. :usa1:

Hey elscorcho, I been wanting to do that on my marshall micro stack cabs (two 1x10" cabs). Wouldn't you have to cut the baffle to the size of the 12" or can you just put the 12" in it and play? I mean wouldn't the baffle cover a portion of the 12"? Sorry for hijacking... :)

Re: Another 10" Thread

Thanks for the great suggestions. I have tried a few Weber's over the years and haven't found one that worked for me. Maybe they just weren't the right matches for the particular amps they were in.
I have an Emi RW&B in a 74 Deluxe Reverb. Ran a 3' speaker cable from it into the the Princeton and it certainly made a bigger noise! However, I do want to keep this amp light and would like to stick to a 10".

Spent more time with the stock Jensen C10R and really enjoyed it's touch sensitivity. Still a little sharp sounding, but I'm thinking the treble may be the key to it's responsiveness. If the C10Q smooths that out slightly and adds a little girth that may be my speaker.

Re: Another 10" Thread

Just for the sake of experimentation I loaded the CH back in and gave it some more playing time. I'm seeing why people say that new speakers need some time to break in. Over the course of a few hours the CH became much more touch sensitive and responsive in the trebles. Now the C10R sounds downright harsh in comparison.
Another thing that occurs to me is that higher wattage speakers may need more volume to get them going. I have no real knowledge to base this on, but it's just a thought.

Re: Another 10" Thread

I have the Jensen C10Qs in my super...very smooth yet dynamic. The bottom end is more controlled than The Rs that were in there. I haven't tried the Weber's so I can offer no comparison.

Re: Another 10" Thread

Weber 10F125= Perfect 10" for me. My Vibrolux Reverb sounds killer with them.

Re: Another 10" Thread

Didn't Areosmith do a song about this?

My first thought when I saw the thread DP. :)

"Got me the strangest woman
Believe it, this chick's no sinch"

But, on the original subject, I'd look at a 10" Legend. They have less break up and can be had at a great price.

After more time with the CH it's still a little warm for my tastes. Think I'll try a Legend 1058 next. If that doesn't do it, the C10Q will be after that.

I play classic country and really just looking for a good old Fender BF Princeton tone without any beefed up frequencies or trying to make a Princeton something different than what it is.

Re: Another 10" Thread

I now have about 15 hours with a C10Q. It's breaking in nicely and doing a great job at giving classic Fender tones. In comparison I would say the Copperhead is a little more modern sounding, but that may have something to do with it's higher wattage rating.
If I were a rock player the Copperhead would be the one (or maybe a Ragin Cajun.) Since twangy country is more up my alley the C10Q is the keeper.

Re: Another 10" Thread

Still loving the the C10Q but now I'm wishing it had slightly more volume before breaking up, plus a little more overall volume. Might the Weber 10F150-T solve this?
Btw, recently tried out a Ragin' Cajun and gave it about 12 hours of break in time. It was too loud!
