Another blue NGD..hmm this one looks familiar..

Phantasmagoria

watch where you point that sabre
My first Ibanez Prestige....An RG 652 AHM GNB, which for some reason looks pretty familiar to me...

:laugh2:

Anyway, so it's the prestige version...wanted to see what all the fu$$ was about....considering they're practically the same guitar (apart from the pups/tremolo..) Not going to lie, It's going to be fun shredding the one against the other :bigthumb:

Have'nt plugged it in yet. I need to set it up a bit 'cause I tune to Eb (so a little work to be done levelling the trem angle) Otherwise it plays pretty flawlessly out of the box (unplugged). Nice low action, great fretwork etc..etc. Looks absolutely gorgeous, but then so does the other one.. :bigthumb:

I have one final NGD coming in after this one & then I'm done, hopefully for years :laugh2:

Awesome! I love the way the purple and orange ones look from the same line. Is it a pretty flat and thin neck?
Yeah, realy fthin, perhaps a hair less flat/rounder than my old S-540's super wizard. Did'nt know there was an orange one . The purple is nice but it's (6 string version) a hardtail and I wanted the trem (Plus I still prefer the green/blue finish)

Man, your money must be really hot. It sure is burning holes in your pockets.

Live fast, die young-(ish)...don't worry about tomorrow, 'cuz there may not be one. :bigthumb:

Besides I'd budgeted for seven new axes (my lucky number) but I'm going to settle for just six (comes from being selfless)

Truth is, I've bought/played cheapo's almost exclusively for 30 years... still love them. But imagine all the pennies I've saved. Think I've earned a bit of indulgence :D

And yes it's a thing of beauty..

This is the orange, very love it or hate it, but I love it.

Nothing wrong at all with indulgence. It wasn't meant to be derogatory. Great that you are following thru with what you have planned and budgeted for. And even, the more guitars the better. Congrats.

I'm going to give a word of warning. I know that guitarists buy and sell guitars. Just like a car enthusiast will always be buying and selling cars. It's kind of in the blood. But be careful. Many years ago I became manic and guess what got way out of control? Buying and selling guitars. I was buying guitars like crazy and when I got a new one I felt so excited, but the high wore off as the months went by. Then I ended up selling to raise money to buy yet a new guitar. Then when that came I felt really excited, but only for awhile. Then the excitement faded and I felt blah.

It became an addiction.

You see the way it works is you need to get that high again (Dopamine) so you buy another guitar. But like a drug the high does not last. It wears off. So now you need another fix to feel that high again. And it's just a vicious cycle.

I'm not saying that is exactly what you're doing. It's your advantage if you're paying cash, but I wasn't. I was using credit cards and I amassed a huge debt.

Finally the whole nasty cycle came to and end and I will never do it again.

It's like any other addiction and it must be treated as such.

I wish the best for you and I hope you get the specific guitars you want.

I just felt the need to sneak in a word of warning and advice.

The Orange one is indeed pretty sweet, Looks like a matte finish? It does'nt seem to be as translucent on top as the green/blue & the purple. Anyway, I am on the blue guitar kick so the blue is my thing :bigthumb:

@Guitardoc: Hey no offense taken, you're someone who knows about guitar indulgence better than most on this forum :laugh2: What's life without indulgences anyway...

@ Napthol: Yeah, I 'm an addictive personaility in general . I have many addictions, some more serious/fun than others ..always had them, which is why I've learnt to control them pretty well over the years . They don't get out of hand. Regarding my recent spree, Yeah I get you about the high & the low that follows but this is'nt about that.

I recently came into some money after selling some real estate that was long overdue to be sold as it was a150 yr old family building in a prime location of Bombay that was'nt in the best condition structurally.. As a result my bank balance runneth over, so to speak. :laugh2:

I've used some of that to send my elder son abroad for a decent university education, made provisions to do the same with my younger son when the time comes, invested in a bunch of shares and things, tied things up in long-term deposits/investments & I'm still pretty flush.

I set aside a certain something (a tiny fraction actually) to spend on guitars and amp's, and that's what I've done....so no credit cards (don't even have one) & no debt/irresponsibility. But as I said yeah, I know and have experienced a lot of what you were talking about, so thanks for that :bigthumb:

In other news. I set up the axe to my liking last night. Even plugged into my amp and played it for a while. May have to change strings (pretty dull) & fix pickup height. The Tone Zone in the bridge is way up high against the strings (The RG 370 came set up the same way & it sounded like ass)..so yeah I will probably mess with that sometime today.

Gonna do a couple 'before' and 'after' setup video's..

This is it directly out of the box last night...no tuning , nothing.. just plugged in and played :lmao:

The Prestige guitars I have owned were very impressive. I think you will find this one to be at a whole other level in play ability when you really get it set up like you want it from your lower line Ibys.
Congrats on that one.

Thank you! It came with probably the lowest (absolutely no buzzing frets) action I've ever played, that said I will likely raise it a hair, so it's more like what I'm used to :lmao:

Also the finish is pretty classy (I can just sit and stare at it for ages :laugh2:) & indeed the fit is all around perfect..

I

Well , here's the result after a bit of tuning/pup height adjustment/bridge angle adjustment..I'll fine tune the pup height after changing strings..bass side might need to come up a tiny bit....or the new strings might bring that up/even things out anyway. These one's on it right now are quite dead...

Anyway, "before" again..

And "after"

A string change & raising the pups a bit (had adjusted them down too low) worked wonders for the tone. The strings it came with really were quite dead. Anyway things sound great now..nice and balanced and the honky-ness is gone. :bigthumb:

I have had enough of playing/recording stuff today though..so clips maybe tomorrow.... :p

Well done!!

You've made some really great financial decisions. First, getting out from under a potential disaster/nightmare. Then, taking care of family needs which should be very beneficial for them (and ultimately you).

You are doing things right, and so I applaud your "indulgence". You deserve it. Keep posting pics of your beautiful acquisitions.
I apologize, again, for getting us off on the wrong foot...my bad. You're a good, smart. level-headed man taking care of business and enjoying life. Congrats.
