Another DR Pure Blues String Issue!

Normally I use D'Addario XLs on most of my stuff...I needed to re-string my LP and had a set of the DR Pure Blues strings..Figured I'd try them again..Strung em up like the directions,no stretching of the strings etc...The E,A,and D won't intonate...Off quickly come the crappy DRs and back to D'Addario .010s and perfect intonation again! Morale of the story...No more DR strings for me! I've read about this same issue on quite a few forums..Just piss poor quality from DR! I still really like D'Addario and the EB Rock and Roll strings.Just a head's up!

Re: Another DR Pure Blues String Issue!

Can you be more specific about the intonation problem you were seeing?

Unable to get the same tunings at the 12th fret compared to the open strings on the wound strings...All 3 wound strings remained flat irragardless of bridge/intonation adjustment screws...No problem at all with D'Addarios..

Re: Another DR Pure Blues String Issue!

I use custom DR Pure Blues on my 335 (starting with a 13 gauge, has a wound 3rd string). I haven't had any intonation issues with DRs and I've been using them for years. When they start to get old, obviously, I run into intonation problems, however, that is typical of all strings when they get used. I never had intonation issues with them when they're new. I have heard about these problems elsewhere though...

Its too bad...I have read alot about inconsistent issues with the DR brand..I have used the Pure Blues and the Tite Fits, but maybe this was just a bad set? They reside in the garbage now and I'm happy to have the XLs back on..Oh well.

Perhaps a bad set. When I run out of my DRs, I may make a switch, for tonal reasons. I've found throatier, fatter sounding roundwound strings from other brands. It's a shame those brands don't do custom gauge sets...

Re: Another DR Pure Blues String Issue!

You are not alone John. PBs, Tite fits or Hi beams, I have had the same issues with several sets on several different guitars.

Best feeling, most inconsistent junka$$ strings you can spend your hard earned money on.

Re: Another DR Pure Blues String Issue!

Don't tell me this! I ordered a bunch of custom sets of the DDT's just recently. The only problem I've had so far is the set I put on my RG seemed to go dead and tarnish extremely fast, like 2 days, and I never have that problem.

Hopefully you will be ok?

Re: Another DR Pure Blues String Issue!

Im not sure who you guys get your strings from but my DR Tite Fits 10s have no problems, intonate properly and are lasting a long time without even being wiped down once but I hardly ever sweat when I play. Oh and Gunny what strings have the throatier tone then DRs?

Re: Another DR Pure Blues String Issue!

DR Pure Blues are round core strings and ALL round core strings are prone to intonation issues...that is the reason string makers went to hex core strings so many years ago...

IMHO round core strings sound bigger and fuller than hex core strings but I have had so many issues with various roudn core strings that for the most part I stick with hex core strings just to avoid the issues...

Re: Another DR Pure Blues String Issue!

Yep..round cores feel awesome but there is a reason all the big boys went to hexcore.

IME, the best normally priced round cores are the Dean Markley Vintage strings..

john, my first (and last) set of $17 pyramids had a totally dead high e within 24 hours and only about 2 hours of play time.

I NEVER have intonation probs with EB, DAD, GHS,.Gibson, or Dean Markley. They may not have the tone , feel, or longevity an individual wants, but the consistency from set to set is there.

I'm in the same boat...I love the tone and feel of DR's but GHS Burnished Nickels feel and sound nearly as good and I can use every set I buy where I end up tossing a few sets of DR's every time I buy a box...

EB R-n-R's are great too and I use them when I can't find the GHS.

Re: Another DR Pure Blues String Issue!

I was intrigued by the whole round-core idea and went with DR several years ago. Haven't had any problems yet. I also sell them in the store at our shop and have heard no complaints. I've tried switching back to hex-core strings a few times, but they just don't feel right anymore and the DRs seem to stay livelier for a longer time.

I use tite-fits mainly, but have sold and used the Pure Blues. I really like the Sun-Beams on the 'ol acoustic, too.

Anyway...

You can out of saddle adjustment space or what?

Your post doesn't make sense? Are you asking if I ran out of saddle adjustment with the DRs? Yep...No problems going back to the D'Addarios though...

I have a set of the burnish strings but have yet to try them yet..How do they compare tonally to the EB RnR strings we both love? I'm done with the DRs...Too many other really good strings I can be using!

Thats funny Jeff...I've used the Pyramids on my SG at least a couple of times and have never had any problems...Nice strings!
