Another DR Pure Blues String Issue!

Re: Another DR Pure Blues String Issue!

I have a set of the burnish strings but have yet to try them yet..How do they compare tonally to the EB RnR strings we both love? I'm done with the DRs...Too many other really good strings I can be using!

I wouldn't say the R-N-R's and the Burnished Nickels are night day as both are pure nickel wrap on a steel hex core but the GHS seem a little warmer to me when they are fresh, they feel smoother overall and I seem to get a longer life out of them.

Cool..See I'll need to try them...I do notice that the D'Addario XL .010s are stiffer to bend on compared to the DR Pure Blues same gauge...Are the Burnished the same kind of tension as the XLs? Appreciate the info!

Another DR Pure Blues String Issue!

I ran in to this same issue some years back when I was new to the forum. Tried them on 3 different guitars, 2 different scales. Couldn't get them intonated. I'm sticking with regular EB Slinkys or the Hybrid Slinkys. Don't mind GHS or Dean Markley either.

Re: Another DR Pure Blues String Issue!

I tried them several years ago. I was also intrigued by their proclamations. I tried 2 sets on my R7, both sets the "G" string buzzed. I took all the precautions they suggested installing them. Too, me if they are this sensitive to poor installation, with my 30 plus years experience restringing guitars, I don't have time for them. I never got to the point of intonation, so I can not comment to that issue. EB Regular Slinky's for me.

All things being equal except the string core a round core string will have slightly less tension than a hex core string so always keep that in mind.

Your D'Addario's are hex core so they will be harder to bend than the DR's.

The GHS are also hex core so I imagine they are ball park the same tension as the D'Addario's however I stopped using XL's so long ago I couldn't come close to giving you a for sure solid answer.

I'm in the exact same boat and with the same feelings as you on strings! Even reading through the posts about the DRs,it seems the DRs are hit and miss..I've never had any problems with either the EB or the D'Addario XL strings..With the D'Addarios I never have to re-intonate and if so,it's ever so slight the adjustment..I Like the EB Rock N Roll strings alot because they are warmer and seem "slinkier" than the D'Addario XLs? Thanks to everyone that posted on this..Some great info!

Yep in total agreement with ya Erik.

Re: Another DR Pure Blues String Issue!

Your post doesn't make sense? Are you asking if I ran out of saddle adjustment with the DRs? Yep...No problems going back to the D'Addarios though...

The winding with pure nickel has different mass, and other things about the string are physically different, too. You will have to use quite drastically different saddle positions for pure nickel strings.

Not all guitars offer that, many are made with just regular nickel steel in mind.

Not a problem....Just won't use the DRs anymore.Thx for posting..

The question is whether you can drive other pure nickel wound strings.

If you don't then I think the DR bashing in this thread isn't warranted. DR makes the most popular pure nickel wind strings and it would be unfair to trash DR if the problem is that one's guitar can't drive nickel.

Re: Another DR Pure Blues String Issue!

I had the same experience with the DR's. Had trouble with D'addario XL's coming unwound from the end. Haven't ever had a speck of trouble from Elixir's. Been using them 7 years or so.

I have used other pure nickel strings and didn't have intonation problems...Call it bashing,I call it a head's up for other forum members..Just putting the info out there,so others don't run into the same problems...As you see, others have! ;o) I own about 12 electrics and setting intonation on all of my guitars(even my Teles) just isn't an issue..

And yet another DR user issue! Seals the deal for me about the DRs...Won't waste my money on em ever again! Sorry DR,but get it together!

Re: Another DR Pure Blues String Issue!

SUcks to hear this, but TBH I`ve been using the DR Titefit 12-52s sind 1996 and have never had an issue with a set. every so often with a single string out of a set, but no more thatn I did before (or still do for that matter) with GHS Boomers and Dean Markely Blue Steels....

Have you sent DR an e-mail about your issue? They sent me 2 complete sets the last time I had a faulty string, about 3 years ago. 20$ worth of free product for merely alerting them to the obvious fact that every so often, things can and will go wrong as long as humans are involved in the process. I didn`t even want a replacement, lol :D

That is simply just wrong information...

Hi buddy....My issue was solely with the Pure Blues,as I have also used the Tite Fits and didn't experience this...Earlier I tryed getting onto their site, but it's down? I was going to contact them, but may have to call them instead...

Interesting...I emailed them a few times and didn't even get so much as a reply!
