Another Electronics Problem (pedalboard power)

Hi Guys,

I currently run 6 x 9v pedals on my pedal board. I'm currently using a big arsed adaptor to power it (I used to run a tube amp off it) which is a pain to lug around. I was wondering what sized adaptor I could go down to run the board? I was hoping it would say on the pack of the pedals what kind of current draw these pedals take but it doesn't.

So anyone any ideas what sized mA/Wattage adaptor I should get?

Cheers

One it would be a good idea to measure the current draw with the pedals maxed out from the 9V battery. Probe clips will make this much easier, you can interupt the positive or negative of the battery doesn't matter and measure the max current draw per each pedal, then add them up and overate the adaptor 200%, and use a regulated adaptor (especially with digital effects), on second thought, you a regulated anyway period, and run that from a surge supressor. There is just no ball park figure as pedals can run (each) from a about 4mA to 180mA for some digitals. Make sure your voltage is correct (the amount and type AC or DC {yes there are some pedals that run off AC, not in your case, but ggod to remember nonetheless}), make sure the polarity is correct as well. And of course that the adaptor can be very cool with the current draw demand. Don't guess measure it ... :cool3:

Most companies list the draw of each of their pedals online too,at least Boss does.

And GOD bless 'em! Man, I wish everyone did ...Shheesh! :laugh2:

Re: Another Electronics Problem (pedalboard power)

It would depend on the type of pedals you are using. As Kent stated check the Draw.
I use a One spot to power almost everything on my board. I have a DD3, A chorus CE2, a TS9, a Bluesbreaker pedal, and a Clyde McCoy Wah pedal as well as a Tuner all powered through a one spot and a daisy chain. It is utterly silent and I have never had any problems with this setup. I just ordered a 2nd unit today from Musicians friend to build a new board. The One spot and the daisy chain was 24.95, pretty reasonable. It will depend on the draw of the total amount of the pedals to determine what power supply you will need. Dunlop also sells a product that I believe is called the Brick. That will power up to 8 9V units.

Re: Another Electronics Problem (pedalboard power)

Check out the Dunlop DC brick. It has more than enough power for all those pedals, and it will power them quietly and reliably. Every bit as good as the Voodoo Labs Pedal Power, and much cheaper.
