Another Fernandez?

Hey everybody! New to the forum so I'm not really sure how everything works yet. But my brother recently gave me a Fernandez strat copy that he found in Goodwill for 25 bucks. I've been looking for the past few months trying to find any information about it but I've never been able to find one quite just like it anywhere.

DESCRIPTION: Modern headstock, heavy block logo, 3tone burst, white(ish) pickguard ?3ply?, rosewood fretboard, white nut, no stripe on back of neck, neckplate labeled "Fernandez", 5digit serial with same block label.

I'll post some pictures in a few when I get home, but if anyone has some info on it that would be very appreciated. Thanks guys.

Re: Another Fernandez?

I know nothing about the brand but looking at those pictures i would say it's nothing special

Re: Another Fernandez?

Looks to be Chinese made in the last 10 years.
These are on par with Chinese Squiers.
Think they have alder bodies
They're entry level but generally nice enough.
Probably a good thing to perform "luthiery experimentation" on.
Throw a set of machine head's on it,chuck in some budget pickups like GFS's. Do what you like,it ain't gonna break the bank if you screw it up!

Japanese Fernandes/Burny guitars on the other hand, are very nice things.

Cheers,PJ

Re: Another Fernandez?

1st think i saw was the trapazoid tuners.. then i thought "equivilent to a squire" which isnt bad in itself, but will need some upgrades to get the most out of the guitar

Id recommend these tuners. I have a set on my squire nd really love them. Now you will have to ream out the holes a bit and redrill the screw holes but thats not that difficult.. Just gotta take your time

for pickups.. id also recommend either the GFS offering or IRONGEAR offerings such as the pig iron which i love.. smokestack II from my understanding is like having a pig iron and the OW version in the same pickup.... i have both pickups in one of my guitars

a set of 3 pig irons will run about 67 dollars which includes shipping.. GFS pickups will cost about the same from my quick research I just did

First thing I saw too–notoriously cheap and would be worth upgrading.

As mentioned, not a special/expensive guitar by any means but for $25 you can make it into a nice player.

if he adds new pups and tuners.. lets see

25---base cost of guitar
70---set of 3 singles
35--- GF locking tuners
-----------------------
$130 or so...
not bad as long as their is nothing catastrophically wrong with the neck. main thing I look at in a used guitar if if the neck is good. IMO, that is the most important part and will be a major factor in the guitar playing outstanding, average, pisspoor or horrible.. I think I just came up with a grading scale.. LOL

Re: Another Fernandez?

Didn't know (but shoulda figured) that Fernandez went to MIC...

Still,for $25 it's a no-brainer.

Always had a soft spot for 3TSB/RW Strats,2-tones not so much...
'Grats!
