Another Guitar Center Story....

I actually had a very pleasurable experience FOR THE FIRST TIME at the "GuiTarget" (LOVE THAT!) yesterday while checking out the Lonestar Special.

The assistant manager was the Mesa Guru of the store & one of the older salesmen there didn't know the answer to a question I had so he grabbed this guy.

Super cool pleasant guy that didn't blow me or the other guy there off....answerred all of our questions, said if there was something in particular we were looking for, he'd be glad to hook us up....even mentioned that a lot of times, there are older models that Mesa still has hanging around & if there was an older model we were looking for, he'd look into getting it for us (I told him I'd love to grab a Blue Angel head...his Mesa guy is supposed to be at the store today & he's gonna pass on my name & number!).

I normally don't buy a thing from GC 'cause in general, they're all a bunch of ****s....but this guy was super cool & I would do business with him & him alone.

I normally just go to GC to try things out & if I find something I like, I look for it online. Aside from that, my local mom & pop shop get my money!!

OH BTW.......The Lonestar ROCKED!!!! The 5w switch is a super super nice option...5-15-30watts...thick reverb with knobs for both channels. I had channel one set pretty clean & channel 2 a little dirtier...with the footswitch (channel selector & solo boost switches) you could severely O/D this baby to the point of no other pedals would be needed (atleast for the music I play....).

Played with the 1x12 & it cranked....they didn't have any heads & the guy told me honestly, the heads really don't sell at this particular store so they didn't order any....BUT he'd be happy to get one for me if I wanted to test drive IT.

All in all, very cool amp worth considerring. Almost like they took the best of the Blue Angel & the best of the Maverick & came out with the Lonestar Special !!! :beerchug:

Re: Another Guitar Center Story....

That's cool. I have had overall good luck with GC. I too have a fantastic local mom and pop that IF I do buy anything new I buy from them. I have never been into buying guitars or amps new. It's kinda like buying a car. The second you pull off the lot you basically have lost your shirt. Same theory with guitars and amps. I guess I would buy new if I was sure I would keep the guitar forever. I once found a Gretsch 6120 SSU (Brian Setzer sig.) at GC Atlanta on clearance for $1400. I bought it and 2 months later sold it on eBay for $1860 to some guy in Canada. Those stories are rare, but it did happen to me one time. Needless to say i was really diggin GC that day!!!!

Re: Another Guitar Center Story....

i am thinkin' of heading there this weekend to see if the 8am memorial day 'list' sale would be worth it ... i really want to give the lonestar special a try ... the regular lonestar didnt do it for me and they didnt have a special to try ... they had Mark IVs reduced real low last time i was there too ...

what was the 'out the door' price on the lonestar special?

Re: Another Guitar Center Story....

Unfortunately, Mesa will drop dealers for discounting their items, so an 'out the door' price is really just retail.

I'm glad you had a good experience! Last weekend, I would've had one, but the guy at the end had to ruin it by pushing the sale (which I didn't have any cash for) way too hard, and even suggesting something illegal...but that's another story.

Yeah, like DSS3 said above, Mesa doesn't allow discounts or anything like that unless it's a close out....the 1x12 was $1599.00 ( :22: )....the head is $1499.00 & the 2x12 is $1699.00.

I tried the regular Lonestar while a guy was playing the Special...it didn't give me the same warm tingly sensation of the Special, plus, it's way more than I need/want (50/100watts).

I'm still looking for a Blue Angel head, but if the right offer for my 4x10 comes along, I might consider the Lonestar Special head!!! :13:

Re: Another Guitar Center Story....

Glad you found a salesman with people skills, and not just seles pitch.

I love my Lonestar Special. It suits my needs perfectly. I got a head and two 2x12, and I prefer that to a combo and extra cabinet. It can get surprisingly dirty if you want it to, and the 5-15-30 watt option is great.

I knew someone around here had one!

Yeah, I was suprised at how dirty it could get. The way I had it set up, there was really no need for any other pedals.....the thing sounded amazing enough to draw a crowd (which is always kinda' cool! )

Very nice amp!!!! How long have you had yours "String" ???

Re: Another Guitar Center Story....

ive only had a bad experience at GC once or maybe twice. whenever i go in there, theres one or two guys who really dont know ****, but everyone else does and they never try and push me to buy anything. the local mom n pop store kicks u out after about 10 minutes if they dont see cash hanging out of your pocket...

Re: Another Guitar Center Story....

I've been to the local GC enough to know who and who not to talk to. There really are some fairly knowledgable guys in there. There are also some real tools that would probably have to think about how many strings are on a guitar. But, you get that anywhere you shop, I suppose.

Good to hear that you atleast liked the Lonestar Special.

Re: Another Guitar Center Story....

Theres a fairly large store near me...Not a GC, but big. There's one guy in there that always has to show off when i wanna try something out. He plugs in and he always plays this same little shred lick, like its the only thing he can play. LOL. One guys a little weird and follows you around asking if you need help and trying to sell you stuff and he doesn't know crap about guitar. The others are of average intelligence i suppose. One guy is very good though, knows about gear, nice, good guitarist. And he says he has a bassman(if i remember right) modded by Dumble, and i beleive him since Mr Dumble lives around here some wheres. Now thats pretty cool.

I was at Willie's American Guitars yesterday, (http://www.williesguitars.com/) and they have a used Blue Angel head now. It's not listed on their website. Give them a call. I didn't catch the price.

Their number is (651) 699-1913.

Re: Another Guitar Center Story....

Once i went to my GC and was just looking around. A salesman was talking to me about my Warmoth that i had brought in, and I mentioned that I had a Silverface Bassman. So he goes "KNOW WHAT YOU NEED!?" and runs me over to two solidstate vox combos. I never said aaanything about wanting a new amp...
