Another hideous RELIC............

Re: Another hideous RELIC............

"Relicing" is one thing when done by a pro (NOT using a belt sander), but that guy is an incredible JACKASS!!!!!!

Re: Another hideous RELIC............

I always get a big kick out of seeing horrible relic jobs. The idea is to make the guitar look as if you're actually a player. hehe And since they're not players, they're morons just messin up their guitars! ROFL I mean what are they trying to replicate?......a knight in chain mail armor playing a 6 mo old strat? hahaha

Re: Another hideous RELIC............

Eesh, neither are that great, but the strat is by far the worse.

It's like blindfolding two people and expecting them to reach a destination 2 miles away. The tele relicer was at least pointed in the right direction.

Re: Another hideous RELIC............

I wish folks would just leave well alone, I'm trying to find a budget Japanese (or Korean) Squier for a project I am doing but when I do find one for the price I can afford a looney like these has "reliced" them.:smack:

Re: Another hideous RELIC............

I wish people would relic their guitar the correct way, by playing the crap out of it for years.

A guitar that has been played for years and is beat up=cool.

A new guitar that has been reliced=retarded.

Re: Another hideous RELIC............

Looking at the guy with the Tele at the top, one of the pictures on that eBay side shows that the Tele was not the only guitar he bastardized. These people should be locked up.

Best way to relic a guitar is play it 2 hours a day for 40 years.

edit: theodie beat me by a minute, with his advice on relicing.

Re: Another hideous RELIC............

The tele got a BIN for $1000...disgusting. The strat almost looks like one of those with a photo flame (literally) skins on it if you squint.

The only time you should have to buy a guitar that's damaged/beat up is if it's really cheap/rare or has actually been played by someone famous or maybe a faithful replica of a famous one.

Re: Another hideous RELIC............

That terrible, looks like he splatter honey on the fret board. anyone think he hates his relic job too, and is trying to just sell it and get as much as possible for it.

Re: Another hideous RELIC............

oh man..... i hate seeing good guitars getting butchered like that..... oddly i could see smashing the hell out of an axe for R&R more then destroying it with a belt sander and burning guitars to add "the cool look".... Strange way of thinking but i'm a Who Fan damit :).

I've destoryed a few guitars in my younger days by modding the hell out of them until nothing was left but a case or gig bag full of Cr*p.... Something about being a teen trying to find a guitar that works and speaks for you leads to these crazy butcher jobs... not having the skills to get what you really want... I was an EVH fan in the 80's so i stripped a few cheap strats and made spray can finnished stripped guitars.... mind you they are now in a landfill site somewhere now..

this whole relic thing kind of drives me crazy for 2 reasons..... one it has many people destroying good guitars, mostly the thick poly MIM Fenders that are not the best base for a relic job in the first place.. And 2 and most importantly older beat up strats are no longer a good cheap used guitar... They add the Relic aged look to it and charge a hell of a lot more then the axes are worth.. I loved buying older well played strats for cheap and fixed them up... this whole Relic thing has the prices of beat up guitars going insane... I used to keep an eye out for older American Standard guitars as they could be had for cheap if they were dinged up... not anymore... it's now called Reliced!!!!

Like Theodie said they should buy a guitar and play it every chance they get until it ages on it's own... If you want a guitar to age quicker i would think the new thinly painted Fender HWY1 line is a good place to start... i would figure they could wear quick if they were used all the time and for hours everyday... the old fashion relic....

I saw Simon Townshend playing in England last year.... he has an old American Standard strat that has been modded with 2 p90's... i was shocked to see his forearm is wearing the poly finnish away on his strat.. that must of taken years to wear... He has had that axe for a long time and uses it for every Who concert

Re: Another hideous RELIC............

Hey who Fan:

I have a Who DVD (Boston Mass) and Simon is playing a guitar that I don't know. Do you know what that guitar is?

Okay back to topic. When my guitars get dinged up, I fix em. I don't relic them, and try to sell them for twice their real value. Talk about cheap skates. I want my guitars to look good!

Re: Another hideous RELIC............

Here's what I found interesting. He's in Henderson, Nevada, but has the same area code as me. I'm in Middle Tennessee.
